Events and Seasons
October is Dalton’s big month, with the Prater’s Mill Country Fair. Spring and fall are the best seasons for the trails at Houston Valley and in the Cohutta Mountains, and fall color in the Cohuttas usually peaks in late October.
Nearby and Trip Planning
For bigger mountains, head east to the Cohutta Wilderness and the Cohutta-Chattahoochee Scenic Byway. Civil War readers can follow the 1864 Atlanta Campaign south from here; start with our Battles of Dalton summary and the Atlanta Campaign sites guide. Rome is about an hour southwest.
