Tips for Strawberry Picking
Go early in the day, when the berries are cool and the fields are fresh, and on weekdays if you can. Pick berries that are red all the way to the cap, and do not stack them too deep in your container. Rain closes most fields for a day or two. Pricing is usually by the pound or by the bucket, sometimes with a small field entry fee. Strawberries do not ripen after picking, so eat or refrigerate them soon.
After strawberries come blueberries in early summer (try Berry Patch Farms), then Georgia peaches from May into August. See our Georgia farmers markets list and spring in Georgia for more.
