Georgia has more than 100 Wildlife Management Areas, Natural Areas and Public Fishing Areas throughout the state and within an hour’s drive of every Georgian. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) is charged with managing, protecting and encouraging the conservation of all wildlife, including game and non-game animals, fish and protected plants.

Whether you hunt, fish, hike or just like watching birds from a quiet trail, Georgia’s WMAs are some of the best public land in the state. Many require a WMA license stamp in addition to your regular hunting or fishing license, and seasons vary by area, so we always recommend checking the current WRD regulations before you head out. If you are new to a particular WMA, call the regional office listed on that location’s page first; they can tell you about current road conditions, gate hours and closures.
