Laurel and Hardy Museum - In honor of native son Oliver Hardy, Harlem established this original array of Laurel and Hardy memorabilia. The museum honors the memory of the greatest comedy pair in history - Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Harlem is a fitting place for the Museum since it is the birthplace of Oliver Hardy. This is also the first museum in the United States ever dedicated to Laurel and Hardy. Open Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 4 pm except holidays. Call to reserve group tours. Small admission fee. U.S. Army Signal Corps Museum is located on Ft. Gordon’s Army base, this museum displays Signal Corps artifacts from the Civil War forward. Old Jail Museum & Geneology Research Center - Explore a Victorian Era conjoined jail and sheriff's home, one of a few known to exist today. Tour the old jail cells with original locking mechanism and graffiti left behind by prisoners. The old gallows yard is adjacent to the jail. The Genealogy Research Center can be found in the home portion. A library filled with historical books on Washington County and adjacent counties and states is available for researchers. The center is also a repository for family books, files, and other Washington County history. While you are visiting, listen or watch for evidence of the ghost Essie, believed to inhabit the historical home. Augusta Arsenal at Augusta State University was the arsenal to both Federal and Confederate governments, and the commandant’s house was a home to poet Stephen Vincent Benet. Call for free tours. Cedar Grove Cemetery is one rich in black history. The staff of the Augusta-Richmond County Cemeteries compiled the information on our website. In 1820, Augusta allotted 40 acres of land where slaves were laid to rest in wooden boxes or were simply wrapped in clothe and buried in unmarked, shallow graves. Enterprise Mill - Factory artifacts are scattered throughout the corridors and grounds of this vast 19th-century textile mill bordering the Augusta Canal. Laney-Walker Historic District is the heart of the traditionally African-American business district. Tabernacle Baptist Church and Penny Savings Bank are among the historic sites in the area. Market House was built at the crossing of two trails, the open-air building dates back to the late 1700s. In the center hangs a bell that was used to warn of Indian attacks. Open Daily.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church - Victorian Romanesque in style with Byzantine influence, Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Sacred Heart Cultural Center) is considered one of the best examples of Victorian masonry work in Georgia. Towering twin spires, turrets, parapets, arches, and 15 distinctive styles of brickwork can be found on the building’s exterior. Bo Ginn Aquarium and Aquatic Educational Center has 26 freshwater tanks at this aquarium in Magnolia Springs State Park display native fish, reptiles and turtles.
