How Northlake Mall Closed
Macy’s, the last department store, announced its closing on January 8, 2026, and shut its doors on April 26, 2026. At the end of May, the small businesses still inside were told the property had been sold, and they received lease-termination notices ordering them to vacate by June 29, 2026, which ended Northlake’s run as an enclosed mall.
The mall had been losing anchors for a decade: Kohl’s (originally a Parisian) closed in 2016, Sears in 2018 and JCPenney in 2020. Emory Healthcare leased the former Sears and Kohl’s buildings for offices and training, and the old Sears store served as Emory’s largest COVID-19 vaccination site.
What’s Next for the Property
In July 2026 the Centurion Foundation, a nonprofit, bought the mall for a reported $95 million with plans to turn it into a health care campus, and Atlanta Journal-Constitution coverage of the sale reported that Emory Healthcare plans to expand there. No construction timeline has been announced. Before the sale, the previous owner, ATR Corinth Partners, had floated a mixed-use plan including about 495 apartments on part of the site, which Tucker’s city council was wary of approving without a master plan for the whole property.
Still Open on the Property
Businesses on the outparcels around the mall, with their own outside entrances, were reported to be unaffected by the closing. They include Jim ’N Nick’s Bar-B-Q, Dugan’s, CDC Federal Credit Union, Foot Locker and a stamp and coin shop. Call ahead, since their leases are separate from the mall’s.
