Scarecrow Showcase & Contest - 10/7 - 10/31/15
The annual Scarecrow Showcase and Contest is a fun-filled event hosted by the McDonough Main Street Program and the Greater McDonough Business Association. The contest is open to all individuals, families, businesses, schools, churches, non-profit organizations and governments in McDonough and surrounding areas. Last year's event showcased 67 scarecrows on and around the Historic McDonough Square with over 1000 votes cast for the People's Choice Award. Come take a tour through the haunted woods of Camp Blood! Now in it's 25th year, Camp Blood is offering "A Quarter Century of Terror!" Come check us out on the Camp Blood Trail and MentalBrook Estates, as well as the Zombie Paintball Shoot. Hours are Thurs at 9-11pm, and Fri and Sat at 9pm-12midnight. Haunted Montrose brings true fear to life. An old house, cemetery and cornfield appear normal at first glance, but the Slaughters' collection of skins, eclectic tools of destruction and a noose designed for torturous death makes you wonder about the family who lived here and what still may be lurking inside The Old Slaughter House, Havoc 3-D, Raven Blackout, and Experimental, or when it last had human contact! Located down a dark, deserted road, Haunted Montrose lures you in for a scare and fills your dreams with nightmares. A fear you have never experienced awaits, and with every step, reaches further into your mind, building terror. Stranger than Fiction: An Exploration of the Extraordinary in Old Savannah - 10/9-10/10, 10/16-10/17, 10/23-10/24 & 10/30-10/31/15 at 7:30-9pm
See an historical entertainment on the many extraordinary ideas, beliefs and objects with which people in the 1820s would have been familiar. Images and phenomena to be considered include Visualization of the Supernatural, Phantasmagoria, Frankenstein, Animal Magnetism and THe Court of Death. While visitors maneuver the historic site they will come into contact with those who lived there in 1828 as they hear about what thrilled, scared and horrified Savannahians of that time. Attention will be paid to spiritual convictions of Lowcountry African Americans of the past. Not suitable for children under 12 years of age. E.L. Cravin's Haunted Funeral Parlor - 10/9-10/10, 10/16-10/17, 10/23-10/24 & 10/30-10/31/15
Tour E.L. Cravin's Funeral Parlor in Blackshear for a spooky good time and hear the story of E.L. Cravin, a doctor who quit his practice and moved to Blackshear in 1909. He lost his wife and son in a fire that burned the funeral parlor to the ground in the summer of 1914. By late October 1914, he had the place rebuilt and moved in, but he bricked in or boarded up most of the doors and windows. There were several complaints through the years of loud screams and noises in the middle of the night and strange sightings of him. Visit E.L. 12th Annual Pumpkin Festival - 10/9 - 10/11, 10/16 - 10/18 & 10/23 - 10/24/15
Families are invited to take in all of the splendor that autumn provides with fun-filled games and shows, take place each weekend during October. Families can twist and turn in Spookley's A-MAZE-ING Adventure maze. Puzzles, passages, twists and turns will keep kids guessing until they reach the exit. Pumpkin Palooza takes the stage with an energy-filled family game show where audience members are picked to participate in a series of zany challenges. Get into the spirit with fall décor and special attractions, such as the Pie Eating Contest, Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt, a costume dance party, crafts in the pumpkin patch and much more! 30th Annual A Tour of Southern Ghosts - 10/9 - 10/11, 10/15 - 10/18 & 10/22 - 10/25/15
ART Station's 30th Annual "A Tour of Southern Ghosts" features storytellers garbed in costumes who will fill your imagination with folk tales about rebellious ghosts of Civil War and Revolutionary War times. Join in as the spooky glow of candlelight sets the mood for old Southern tales at Stone Mountain Park's Antebellum Plantation. An entrance fee of $14 for adults and $6 for children (12 and under) is charged for event entry or adults can pre-purchase their tickets at a discounted rate of $12 at the Art Station. (Event entry is not included with Stone Mountain Park's regular Adventure Pass.) Vehicle entry to Stone Mountain Park is $15 for a one-day permit or $40 for an annual permit. Bartow History Museum is transforming into the Spooky Museum! All fairies, pirates, monsters, princesses, and others of their ilk are invited to join us for Halloween treats. Get your face painted, play games, create some Halloween magic at the craft stations, and partake of potions and goodies at the snack table. Visit the exhibit gallery to see some "paranormal" museum patrons, creepy crawlies, spooky surprises, hear fun stories in the one-room school house, and much more! Take a guided tour around downtown Cartersville, while hearing stories of the lives and deaths of former residents. The museum is excited to be teaming with TheatreExtreme to offer this fun and entertaining event. Tours begin at 5 p.m. with the last one leaving at 10:30 p.m. May not be appropriate for all ages. The Haunting of Blackbeards' Island - 10/24/15 at 6:30-9pm
Savage Island becomes Blackbeards' Island for the weekend as we decorate and dress like pirates.
