Challenge of the Centuries Bike Ride - 5/24/15 at 8am
Come join us this Memorial Day Weekend for The Challenge of the Centuries Bike Ride. Beginning and ending in Hartwell, Ga., (adjacent to beautiful Lake Hartwell and the Georgia/South Carolina border), participants enjoy riding loops that traverse rolling back country roads with picturesque scenery and minimum traffic. Each day, there are three different rides and routes: 100 miles, 100 kilometers and 50 kilometers. Enjoy the spectacular sight or the simple beauty of the wild roadside roses. Memorial Day Mayhem - 5/24/15 - Call for hours
Have a wild time with water balloon wars! Take a lantern light night walk (with homemade tin can lanterns.) Meet and learn about some live exotic and invasive animals. Memorial Day Observance - 5/24 - 5/25/15 at 8am-5pm
On the Friday before the holiday, the Avenue of Flags is raised in the National Cemetery by volunteers. Volunteers honor our veterans by participating in the Flag Placement Program throughout the weekend. On Saturday morning, volunteers, including scout and youth groups from across the state, place flags throughout Andersonville National Cemetery. During the weekend, volunteers also assist with maintaining the gravesite flags and the annual Sunday Memorial Day Observance Program. On Tuesday, following Memorial Day, the flags are removed by volunteers. The culmination of all these activities is the Sunday afternoon Memorial Day ceremony, which takes place at the National Cemetery rostrum. The service traditionally includes a musical program, speaker and the placement of memorial wreaths. Free admission and parking. The City of Woodstock joins forces with the American Legion, Marine Corps League, and other local veterans groups to honor those who fought to keep us free. Join us on Memorial Day for a special service of remembrance in The Park at City Center. The East Cobb New Horizons Band will make the occasion even more special. Come visit the Woodstock Memorial, which has 10 tons of polished granite dedicated to our Woodstock veterans who gave us the ultimate sacrifice - their lives. If you know a Woodstock veteran who died in combat or from an injury as a result of combat, please let us know so we may have their name added to the memorial.
