Scarecrow Showcase & Contest - 10/1 - 10/31/14
The contest is open to all individuals, families, businesses, schools, churches, non-profit organizations and governments in McDonough and surrounding areas. Last year's event showcased 67 scarecrows on and around the Historic McDonough Square with over 1000 votes cast for the People's Choice Award. Pine Mountain Gold Mine Ghost Train - 10/2 - 10/4, 10/9 - 10/11, 10/16 - 10/18, 10/23 - 10/25 & 10/30 - 10/31/14 at 6-10pm
Something is awry on the mountain as old forgotten gold miners seem to be coming back to life! Get your Halloween chills and thrills as you ride on our own Ghost Train and tour our Haunted Hut! Tickets will be on sale for $10 per train ride or $10 per Haunted Hut, or purchase a combo ticket that will cover both the Ghost Train and the Haunted Hut for only $15 per person. 6 p.m.-7 p.m. will be geared toward younger audiences, but once it gets dark, it gets scarier and may be better suited for teens and older. Nevermore Hills Haunted Trail at the Museum of Aviation - 10/3-10/4, 10/10-10/11, 10/17-10/18, 10/25-10/26 & 10/31-11/1/14 at 8-11pm
Dr. Rod Usher was a military scientist who secretly began cloning animal and plant DNA/traits to humans to produce a super human military. Due to his unconventional and highly questionable practices, his project was closed and classified as the "Nevermore Project." He was dishonorably discharged and exiled along with his wife. Nevermore Hills Haunted Trail will include a variety of scares in the woods, as well as a number of haunted barns. Volunteers from the Warner Robins community have been working diligently for the last few months to prepare for this exciting new fundraiser. The cost for the haunted trail will be $13 per person and ticket sales will end by 11 p.m. Children ages 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult. All funds raised through the trail will be used for operating support for both the Museum of Aviation Foundation and the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame. Dahlonega Ghost Walk - Historic Hauntings Tour - 10/3 - 10/4, 10/10 - 10/11, 10/17 - 10/18, 10/24 - 10/25 & 10/31/14 at 8pm
The 14-location guided tour takes guests on an eerie and intriguing journey full of local tales and legends. Tour guide and founder Jeremy Sharp weaves through streets, back alleys, rows of historic buildings, and the historically significant local cemetery.  He has studied Dahlonega’s history and has also worked with paranormal researchers using thermal cameras and other equipment to document some sightings. Tour is approximately 1.3 miles long. Tours, all on paved, designated walkways, with the exception of Mount Hope Cemetery, end in front of the Visitors Center, 13 South Park Street. If you are brave enough, come out after hours and discover why neighbors complain about unexplained or strange occurances that happen on the farm. It's never safe to go out alone, and the farmer knows better than to work after the sun goes down. Families are invited to take in all the splendor that autumn provides with fun filled games and shows at Stone Mountain Park's Twelfth Annual Pumpkin Festival, to take place each weekend during October. Families can twist and turn in Spookley's A-MAZE-ING Adventure maze. Puzzles, passages, twists and turns will keep kids guessing until they reach the exit. Pumpkin Palooza takes the stage with an energy-filled family game show where audience members are picked to participate in a series of zany and messy challenges. The winner takes all and the losers have to spin the "Wheel of Misery," with consequences ranging from a pie in the face, dancing like a chicken or getting "splurfed" (a gooey, slimy substance poured on top of your head). The Friends of the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site, a not-for-profit organization, is conducting fun, interactive tours suitable for adults and children. A new narrative is being written by local author Trisha Slay, who is working on a paranormal mystery novel. “Haunted Dahlonega: Spirits, Legends & Lore” explains why Dahlonega is such a hotbed of activity, includes Cherokee folktales, and explores local mysteries and benevolent hauntings. All proceeds from the tour benefit the Dahlonega Gold Museum, to assist in keeping it open seven days a week. Cost is $10 per person. Tickets are available at the Dahlonega Gold Museum.
