Memorial Day Observance - 5/24 - 5/28/13 at 8am-5pm
Each year Andersonville National Cemetery hosts a series of activities to commemorate the Memorial Day Holiday. On the Friday before the holiday, the Avenue of Flags is raised in the National Cemetery by volunteers. Throughout the weekend, volunteers honor our veterans by participating in the Flag Placement Program. Saturday morning, volunteers including scout and youth groups from across the state, place flags throughout Andersonville National Cemetery. Free admission and parking. This is a strenuous trek, include hiking down 531 stairs, a river crossing jumping from rock to rock, and climbing boulders along the side of the river to Bridal Veil Falls where you can swim. Spend America's birthday in Hiawassee and watch the annual 4th of July Boat Parade on Lake Chatuge. Enjoy the rest of the day on this beautiful TVA lake. Boaters line up behind the Grand Marshall for the parade start at 10 a.m. at Nantahala Bay. No wake, and boats must fly a U.S. flag. Additional patriotic decorations are encouraged. Annual Lumber City Farm Day Festival - 9/6 - 9/8/13 - See times below
Spend the evening, day or entire weekend with Lumber City as we celebrate the "good ole days" when the locals gathered on Main Street every Saturday, to play guitars, sing and enjoy good food. Friday, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., enjoy arts, crafts, and food booths; a kids amusement park with slides and rides. The Street Dance begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, festivities are planned from 9 a.m. to midnight. A 1-mile and 5K race begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning breakfast is served 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. A dog show begins at 9 a.m. and a parade at 10 a.m. Cake walks; arts, crafts and food booths; and a kids amusement park with slides and rides will be available throughout the day. 11th Annual Hometown Christmas by Hometown Warrenton, Inc. - 12/12/13 at 3-9pm
Restaurants will serve delicious dinners by candlelight, and specialty shops will offer bargains to complete each and every shopping list. At 5 p.m., the Warrenton Garden Club will present the annual Tree-Lighting Service in front of the historic courthouse. Afterward, Santa will arrive, and cauldrons will be set up along Main Street for roasting marshmallows. Horse-drawn carriage rides and hay rides will carry visitors through the residential winter wonderland of illuminated streets to view the holiday-decorated homes.
