An Evening of African American Poetry - 1/21/17 at 7:30-10pm
In honor of MLK, Jr, Director Mical Whitaker has assembled talented artists and the area's most distinctive voices to bring to life the words of poets Langston Hughes, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Maya Angelou, and Jill Scott among others. The evening will be an inspirational fusion of music and spoken word performances. Valentine's Full Moon Paddle - 2/10/17 at 5:30-7pm
Have a romantic paddle in the light of the full moon on Lake Laura Walker. This is a ranger-led paddle; the lake is normally closed to the public after sunset. This is a great opportunity for beginners, and there is a high chance of seeing a variety of nocturnal wildlife. We will have limited space, and pre-registration is required. St. Patrick's Kite Flying Jamboree - 3/4/17
Bring your favorite kite as the luck of the Irish blows in steady breezes for the Annual St. Patrick's Festival Kite Flying Jamboree at Springdale Baptist Church. This free family event fills the sky with bold color. Lucky the Leprechaun will visit, and snacks will be available for donation. Conyers St. Patrick's Day Parade - 3/17/17 at 4:30pm
Everyone's Irish for the day. This is a two-block walking parade, and everybody is encouraged to meet at the corner of Main and Center streets prior to 4:30 p.m. to join in this annual tradition. There is an annual crowning of children's St. Patrick's Day Parade king and queen and a Leprechaun Lookalike Contest at the conclusion of the parade. There are also complimentary Irish-themed refreshments at the Olde Town Pavilion. Following the parade is the 8th Annual World's Shortest Endurance Run sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rockdale County. The run, .1 mile in length from the Conyers Welcome Center to The Pointe on Railroad Street, begins with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. and participants who enter will receive a T-shirt. Get those Irish eyes smiling as hundreds of floats take to Jackson Street and Bellevue Avenue for the ultimate celebration of Irish pride. Be sure to wear your green and get ready to frolic! Watch the kids go crazy as handfuls of candy are thrown their way during this festive parade. Wave at all the frilly green floats as "Lucky" the leprechaun makes his way into town surrounded by floats full of creativity as they make their way through Downtown Dublin.
