Memorial Day Commemoration - 5/28/16 at 9am-4pm
Help us pay tribute to our fellow patriots who served our country throughout the years with a commemoration and reenactment. Memorial Day Duckie Race - 5/28/16 at 10am-3pm
We're kicking off summer at Chatt Bend with the 2nd annual Duckie Race. Race starts at 2 p.m. so be sure to get your lucky duck. Other activities include a nature hike at 10 a.m., and water balloon games in the afternoon. Lucky Duck winners get prizes! Costs are $1 to $5, and $5 parking fee. Join us for a holiday you and your family won't soon forget. Begin with our special "Hidden Gems" event followed by our 3rd Annual Doggie Pageant. Later, we'll have wiffleball on the baseball field, all culminating with a campfire at the amphitheater, with s'mores, storytelling, and campfire songs. Free fun event! $5 parking fee. Emancipation Proclamation Celebration - 5/28/16 at at 10am-5pm
Each May, crowds flock to the streets of Thomaston to celebrate a small document that said a lot for the United States of America. Since the beginning of this great day (Emancipation Day), it has been annually observed by Upson County. Each year, beginning May 29, 1866, people of Upson and surrounding counties have converged on the town of Thomaston to celebrate the emancipation of the slaves. This is the oldest, continuously observed annual emancipation event in the United States. Handicapped Accessible event. Free admission and parking. War of Jenkins' Ear - 5/28 - 5/30/16 at 10am-4pm
Wormsloe will commemorate Georgia's role in the 1739-1748 war between Britain and Spain. A brief presentation at the Visitor Center will be followed by a walking tour of the site. The program will also include military drills and black powder weapons demonstrations. There will be 4 cannon firings each day. At 10 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, and 3 PM. Memorial Day Commemoration and the Site's Hidden Gem - 5/30/16 at 11am-3pm
This coastal fort will present hourly Revolutionary War soldier talks and musket and cannon demonstrations. Visitors may explore the site and find its Hidden Gem. The beautiful vista from the earthen fort, over the Medway River and out through St. Catherine's Sound has a view that has changed very little over hundreds of years. Handicapped Accessible event. 10th Annual Memorial Day Celebration - 5/30/16 at 10am-5pm
Bring your family for a fun day of patriotic celebrationl. Entertainment begins at 10 a.m. Monday. There will be an assortment of antiques, crafts and food. Patriotic program begins at 12 noon. The parade featuring the 116th Army Band begins at 2 p.m. There will be a moment of silence at 3 p.m. and a mini concert by the band. End the day with a fireworks display at dark at Marimac Lakes. Annual Independence Day Concert & Picnic - 7/1/16 at 5:30-9pm
Summer in Madison would not be complete without this free celebration featuring live patriotic music by Georgia's longest operating community band, the Athens Classic City Band. Bring a picnic, blankets, tables or chairs and join family and friends for the festivities. Music begins at 7 p.m., but come early to grab a spot on the lawn or rent a table from the Center for $20 each. Don't forget to decorate your table; prizes will be given for "Most Patriotic" table decorations. The Annual Independence Day Concert ends at dusk and is followed by professional fireworks presented by the City of Madison at Heritage Park. This is truly a fun-filled evening for the entire family! Lake Burton 4th of July Fireworks Celebration - 7/2/16 at 9-10:30pm
Independence Day Celebration on Lake Burton near Billy Goat Island. Jump in your boat and prepare to be dazzled. The fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m. If there is rain, they will wait one hour. As the sun sets, we will enjoy a panoramic view of Stone Mountain and Atlanta's Independence Day Celebrations from a distance. Bring water, bug spray, and a flashlight for the walk back down the mountain to a waiting campfire and s'mores. Cost is $15 per person and $5 vehicle parking fee. Spooky Wagon Ride - 10/21-10/22 & 10/28-10/29/16 at 7:30-9:30pm
Take a frightful wagon ride through a dark and creepy forest. Meet a strange and ghastly cast of characters along the way. Wagon will depart from beach parking lot, each ride lasts about 20 minutes. Rides will be first come, first serve. Volunteer ghosts are needed; contact the park as soon as possible. Costs are $5 plus $5 parking.
