This event features 14 large format lithographs by Salvador Dali, including those in his Trilogy of Love series, from OUMA's permanent collection. Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine - 8/1 - 8/29/14 at 6:30pm
Nearly every Friday night from May through September, local competitors power up for weekly drag racing among several divisions. Everything from full-blown dragsters to grandma's grocery-getter will compete in side-by-side, heads-up drag racing along Atlanta Motor Speedway's pit road eighth-mile drag strip. The Show-N-Shine Car Show offers fans a chance to show off their rides in the comforts of the NASCAR garage. Participating Show-N-Shine vehicles will be displayed on the frontstretch before the start of opening ceremonies, allowing fans an opportunity to walk on the track and look at the show cars up close. Old Soldiers Day Parade & Race - 8/2/14 at 7am-12noon
The 5K and 10K road race rolls through town and finishes right before the downtown ceremonies and parade that recognizes the living memory of all veterans of war. Phish was founded in 1983 when freshman Trey Anastasio posted flyers around the University of Vermont Campus, looking for musicians to form a band. (Why didn't he use Craigslist? Unclear). Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon and Jeff Holdsworth answered the flyer and soon Phish was gigging regularly in the Burlington area. The lineup solidified in 1985, when keyboardist Page McConnell joined the group (and persuaded Anastasio and Fishman to join him at nearby Goddard College) and Holdsworth left soon after. After that, it has been a steady climb from Burlington club band to rodeo-clown backing group to regional touring act to bigger clubs, and eventually theatres and arenas worldwide. Geology Hike - 8/9/14 at 10am-12noon
Geologist John Johnston will lead a moderate two-mile hike identifying rocks and explaining how and when they formed. He will also explain the tectonic events that forced the rock units to be faulted and folded. There will be a short visit inside the ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester Mill. Call for cost.

"Ruins to Rapids" Full Moon Hike - 8/9/14 at 8:30-10:30pm
This 1.5-mile hike is moderately difficult and goes inside the Civil War-era textile mill ruins of New Manchester and follows the lovely rapids (up to class IV) of Sweetwater Creek. A flashlight and sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. No children under 6 or dogs. Meet inside the Visitor's Center. Register in advance. Cost is $6 per person and $5 parking fee.
