Georgia Conservancy 5k/10k - 4/1/17 at 8am-5pm
REI and Georgia Conservancy 5k / 10k "Back in time" race celebrates our 50th Anniversary thanks to REI Outdoor School. Join REI and the Georgia Conservancy for a unique trail race held at Sweetwater Creek State Park. Whether you're looking to run your first trail race or hoping to hit a personal best, this fun, light-hearted race will help you set your pace! Here's how it works: submit your finish time in advance, and the winner is determined by the runner who is "Back in Time" closest to their prediction. Downside: this means no watches, no headphones, no GPS units, no timing devices of any kind are allowed. Upside: there will be prizes! Categories will be the top 3 guesses in women's and men's categories. All runners will receive a free Georgia Conservancy 50th Anniversary t-shirt. 100% of proceeds from this event will benefit the Georgia Conservancy. Back To Your Roots Farm Fair - 4/2/17 at 12noon-4pm
Get back to your roots with CNC this spring as we celebrate Earth Day and play outside. Farm animals from Farmer Sue's The Art Barn will be there to celebrate too! Explore the Unity Garden to see beautiful vegetable plants growing. Festivities include: farm fun hands-on activities; outdoor games; face painting; and Spring Native Plant Sale featuring vegetables, shrubs, and trees. This event is sponsored by Northside Hospital. Duluth Rotary Car Show - 4/8/17 at 10am-2pm
Exotic cars will take over Main Street in Downtown Duluth. Antique Classics, Foreign Sports, Hot Rods, Muscles, and Pickups are the featured cars of the event. Friends of Panola Mountain Extended Hike - 4/8/17 at 9am-2pm
Take a guided hike with a trained "Friends of Panola" volunteer, through the restricted Conservation Area and up to the summit of Panola Mountain. This is a 5-mile, semi--off trail, strenuous hike that offers a variety of beautiful views and unique perspectives on the park. Must call to register in advance. "Ruins to Rapids" Almost Full Moon Hike - 4/10/17 at 8:30-10pm
This 1.5 mile ranger-led hike is rated "moderate" and follows the lovely rapids of Sweetwater Creek to the Civil War-era mill ruins of New Manchester (as seen in "Hunger Games: Mockingjay"). Hike will be cancelled if it is raining. A flashlight and sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. No children under 6 or dogs allowed. Costs are $6 per person and $5 vehicle parking fee. Full Moon Paddle - 4/11/17 at 8-10pm
Join us for a peaceful, ranger-led paddle on the Sparks Reservoir under the full moon. This program is offered to all adults (18 years and older) who can swim. You have a choice of a tandem kayak or a canoe. Meet at the Bait Shop. Reservations are required. Costs are $25 per person and $5 vehicle parking fee. Atlanta Audubon Society Bird Walk - 4/14/17 at 9-11:30am
Bring your binoculars for this gentle hike through the park's Power of Flight area. Basic identification techniques and common birds will be discussed. Good for all ages. We recommend long pants and sleeves. Meet Alexander Lakes parking area. Call the Nature Center to register in advance. Donations of birdseed are appreciated, but not required.
