The two-hour clinic covers equipment, knot tying, casting, safety issues and other tricks of the trade. If time permits participants may stay to catch the “Fish of Fish.” Our local instructors C. H. New Manchester History Hike - 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, & 5/31/2008 at 10 am - 12 pm
This mile-long hike (easy to moderate) will lead us to the ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester textile mill and focus on the history of the Sweetwater Creek valley. This historian or ranger-led hike will include going inside the impressive mill ruins and seeing the lovely whitewater rapids (both providing great photo opportunities). $1-$2 plus $3 parking.

Geologist and "Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park" member John Johnston will lead a moderate 2-mile hike identifying rock types and explaining how they formed. "Ruins to Rapids" Full Moon Hike - 5/19/2008 at 8 pm - 10 pm
This 1.5-mile guided hike is moderately difficult and visits the Civil War-era textile mill ruins of New Manchester and follows the lovely rapids (up to class IV) of Sweetwater Creek. The hike will continue if it is overcast but will be cancelled if raining. Bring a flashlight and sturdy shoes. No children under 6 or dogs please. $1-$2 plus $3 parking.

Hands On Atlanta Project at Panola -5/24/2008 at 9 am - 12:30 pm
Volunteers are invited to lend a hand with projects to improve the park's recreational and environmental resources. Removing invasive plants improves native habitat, while grounds maintenance (such as spreading woodchip mulch along trails) will assist with erosion control. This is shovel and clippers work, so wear gloves, jeans and long sleeves.

Market Day for Local Arts and Crafts - 6/1/2008 at 10 am - 3 pm  
Featuring arts and crafts people from around Newnan who bring to the courthouse square their handiwork to sell to the public. This event draws over 50 artist and crafters each first Saturday of the month. Come stay a day under the old oak trees surrounding this scenic and historic courthouse. This 1.5-mile guided hike is moderately difficult and visits the Civil War-era textile mill ruins of New Manchester and follows the lovely rapids (up to class IV) of Sweetwater Creek. Hands On Atlanta Project at Panola - 9/20/2008 at 9 am - 12:30 pm
Volunteers are invited to lend a hand with projects to improve the park's recreational and environmental resources. Removing invasive plants improves native habitat, while grounds maintenance (such as spreading woodchip mulch along trails) will assist with erosion control. This is shovel and clippers work, so wear gloves, jeans and long sleeves.

Fall Wildflower Hike - 9/27/2008 at 10 am - 1 pm
Take this guided hike up Panola Mountain during the time of year when yellow daisies are in their full glory and the colors of fall are everywhere. $5 plus $3 parking.

Advanced Fly Fishing Clinic - 9/27/2008 at 10 am - 12 pm
This clinic is for graduates of our Basic Fly Fishing Clinic and Experienced Fly Fisherman call (prerequisite), and will focus on “On the Water Techniques.”  We begin at the Rockdale River Trail parking and then head to the lake for advanced casting technique instructions (Steeple Caste, Roll Cast, and Double-haul Casting), line mending, reading the water and entomology. $12-$15, park $3

Tree Top Excursions: Open Climb - 10/4/2008 at 1-4 pm
Join us "on rope" for an adventure exploring the canopy above. This is an introductory climb to Canopy-Adventure-Research-Educational Technical Tree Climbing (CARE TTC). Market Day for Local Arts and Crafts - 10/4/2008 at 10 am - 3 pm   
Featuring arts and crafts people from around Newnan who bring to the courthouse square their handiwork to sell to the public. This event draws over 50 artist and crafters each first Saturday of the month. Come stay a day under the old oak trees surrounding this scenic and historic courthouse. It has been the backdrop for 4 major motion pictures and several made for TV movies.

“Walk ‘n Talk” on the new PATH trail that begins by Lake Alexander. Gather with us at the Rockdale River Trail to increase physical activity through a motivating walk, as you pass rock outcroppings gleaming in the morning sun, streams weaving through hardwood forest, and fields of birds singing in the cool breeze. Basic Fly Fishing Clinic - 10/11/2008 at 9:45 am - 12 pm (noon)
The two-hour clinic covers equipment, knot tying, casting, safety issues and other tricks of the trade. If time permits participants may stay to catch the “Fish of Fish.” Our local instructors C. H. Brown and Michael Reilley suggest wearing long pants/shorts and hiking shoes, and bringing snacks, water and sun lotion. Georgia fishing license required. $7 - $10 plus $3 parking.
