As a boy in the 1950s, he spent many weekends in Smyrna and visited the Carmichael Plantation, near I-285, where he searched the area of the battle that reached Atlanta, having passed through Smyrna in 1864. He found his first relic, a lead .58-caliber bullet and was hooked. He and his family continued exploring, building a huge collection of artifacts through the years. A portion of the collection is now displayed on the 2nd floor at Smyrna City Hall (2800 King Street, Smyrna Ga.) with two additional displays on the 2nd levels of the Smyrna Public Library (100 Village Green Circle, Smyrna Ga.) and Brawner Hall (3180 Atlanta Road, Smyrna Ga.). Find information at www.SmyrnaCity.com / Residents / History and Points of Interest / Cox Armstrong Collection. Handicapped Accessible. Show at 8am-5pm. Free admission and parking.
