Wild Africa at Fernbank - 5/4 - 5/19/16
Fernbank Museum of Natural History will premiere BBC Earth's next world-class nature film Wild Africa in its five-story IMAX® Theatre Friday, Jan. 8. Narrated by Helena Bonham Carter, the enchanted film takes viewers on a spectacular ride across, over, and through the magical realms of the most dramatic continent on earth. Wild Africa's audience will be plunged into fantastic places and meet amazing creatures. The film's journey follows the iconic wildlife that lives throughout this diverse wilderness - from snow-covered mountains to coral cities, from raging rivers to steamy rainforests, and from wide-open savannahs to scorching desert dunes. National Parks Adventure at Fernbank - 5/4 - 5/31/16
MacGillivray Freeman Film's National Parks Adventure takes audiences on the ultimate off-trail adventure into our nation's awe-inspiring great outdoors and untamed wilderness.. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is located on the Chattahoochee River in Roswell and sits on a beautiful site comprised of 127 acres of native plants and gardens that showcase the beauty of Georgia. The property includes a River Boardwalk, Discovery Center, wetland demonstration gardens and woodland trails that are home to over 50 species of injured, non-releasable wildlife. There are trails to walk, exhibits to explore and a perfect picnic spot! For nearly 40 years, the Nature Center has continued to grow and reach out to citizens as a place to explore new ideas and expand the awareness of the natural world. Intro to Tree Climbing - 5/21/16 at 1-5pm
Join us "on rope" for an adventure exploring the canopy above. This is an introductory program to recreational tree climbing. Participants will use rope and harness to ascend into a 200+ year old Southern Red Oak, where they can climb, swing, and scramble. Climbs start at 1 PM and 3 PM. Must call to register. Ages 8 and up. Click title for details. This strenuous activity is well worth the effort. Climbers can choose how high they would like to go and even swing to and walk on branches 30= feet off the ground. Close-toed shoes and long pants recommended. Hair longer than shoulder length should be pulled back in a low ponytail. All equipment is provided. Arrive early to allow for walking time. Our Climbing tree, Naomi Ruth, is located across Lower Alexander Lake from the Alexander Lakes Parking Area and can be access easily by a short walk across the dam on the PATH Trail. once across, the second trail on the right, leading into the meadow, takes you to the Tree. If you hit Scout Lake Primitive Camping, you've gone too far. Costs are $15 per person and $5 parking fee.

Georgia State University's notable Jazz Ensemble Band, directed by Dr. Gordon Vernick, will debut with a delightful evening dedicated to authentic Jazz, with a Georgia twist. Join us "on rope" for an adventure exploring the canopy above. This is an introductory program to recreational tree climbing. Participants will use rope and harness to ascend into a 200+ year old Southern Red Oak, where they can climb, swing, and scramble. Climbs start at 1 PM and 3 PM. Must call to register. Ages 8 and up. Click title for details. This strenuous activity is well worth the effort. Climbers can choose how high they would like to go and even swing to and walk on branches 30= feet off the ground. Close-toed shoes and long pants recommended. Hair longer than shoulder length should be pulled back in a low ponytail. All equipment is provided. Arrive early to allow for walking time. Our Climbing tree, Naomi Ruth, is located across Lower Alexander Lake from the Alexander Lakes Parking Area and can be access easily by a short walk across the dam on the PATH Trail. once across, the second trail on the right, leading into the meadow, takes you to the Tree.
