Cherry Blossom Festival - 3/27 at 4-9pm, 3/28 at 10am-9pm & 3/29/15 at 12noon-6pm
We have planted 140 cherry trees on the park's 52 acres. This is a first-time event for our new city. Attendees will enjoy arts and crafts, great food and entertainment. The Cox/Armstrong Civil War Collection - 3/27 - 3/28 & 3/30 - 3/31/15
The City of Smyrna installed three displays containing selections from a collection of Civil War artifacts collected by Gerald Cox. Gerald Cox (1945-1996) was an Atlanta Civil War artifacts collector who grew up in a family of Civil War historians. As a boy in the 1950s, he spent many weekends in Smyrna and visited the Carmichael Plantation, near I-285, where he searched the area of the battle that reached Atlanta, having passed through Smyrna in 1864. He found his first relic, a lead .58-caliber bullet and was hooked. He and his family continued exploring, building a huge collection of artifacts through the years. A portion of the collection is now displayed on the 2nd floor at Smyrna City Hall (2800 King Street, Smyrna Ga.) with two additional displays on the 2nd levels of the Smyrna Public Library (100 Village Green Circle, Smyrna Ga.) and Brawner Hall (3180 Atlanta Road, Smyrna Ga.). Stewardship Saturday - 3/28/15 at 9am-1pm
Join us as we partner with the South River Watershed Alliance to help clean-up and restore native vegetation to the bank of the South River. Wear work shoes and long pants, and bring gloves and a water bottle. Meet at Alexander Lakes Area Parking Lot. The first step is to remove invasive plants and litter from the bank, so bring your determination and a can-do attitude! In the spring we will transplant native River Cane into the area to help stop erosion. Registration in advance required. Free admission and parking.

Indoor Basic Archery - 3/28/15 at 10am-12noon & 2-4pm

This mile-long hike (easy to moderate) will lead to the five story ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester textile mill and focus on the history of the Sweetwater Creek Valley. Harbingers of Spring Discovery Hike at West Palisades - 3/29/15 at 10am-3:30pm
Join the National Park Service and Georgia Botanical Society for a wonderful early spring afternoon. This hike will lead us along the river, across Rottenwood Creek,, and around Blood Rock Ridge in the West Palisades. Enjoy grand views of the East Palisades, including the site of "Nancy Old Towne", a Woodland Culture Village site; and the Chattahoochee River. Returning to Rottenwood Creek we will venture a short distance on the paved multi-use trail to see Trout Lilies and discover other harbingers of spring. Monadnock Madness - 3/29/15 - Call for times
Just 30 minutes east of Atlanta you can see vernal pools, snorkelwort, and diamorpha at our local monadnocks. The City of Smyrna installed three displays containing selections from a collection of Civil War artifacts collected by Gerald Cox. Gerald Cox (1945-1996) was an Atlanta Civil War artifacts collector who grew up in a family of Civil War historians. As a boy in the 1950s, he spent many weekends in Smyrna and visited the Carmichael Plantation, near I-285, where he searched the area of the battle that reached Atlanta, having passed through Smyrna in 1864. He found his first relic, a lead .58-caliber bullet and was hooked. He and his family continued exploring, building a huge collection of artifacts through the years. A portion of the collection is now displayed on the 2nd floor at Smyrna City Hall (2800 King Street, Smyrna Ga.) with two additional displays on the 2nd levels of the Smyrna Public Library (100 Village Green Circle, Smyrna Ga.) and Brawner Hall (3180 Atlanta Road, Smyrna Ga.).
