Tammy McCann - 1/21/17 at 7:30pm
"Classically trained but steeped in the sounds and rituals of Chicago jazz," vocalist Tammy McCann finds "new tones and colors, fresh shadings and tints in an instrument that already ranks among the most alluring in jazz," commanding a "luxuriant, supple, larger-than life" voice "that inspires wonder" (Chicago Tribune). "McCann's remarkable range of color, texture, tone and nuance very nearly overwhelmed the ear…dusky tones, tautly controlled vibrato and phrases that seemed to stretch on forever… there was no denying the fascination of hearing McCann wend her way through a maze of ensemble sound…rich in throaty low notes and raspy, gritty growls. Now that's singing" (Chicago Tribune). "She stepped up to the mic and into the hearts of everyone in the room" (JazzInside). Handicapped Accessible event. Cost is $40 per person. Phone: 678-466-4200 - Address: Spivey Hall, 2000 Clayton State Blvd., Morrow, GA 30260
Minton Sparks with special guest John Jackson - 1/21/17 at 8-10pm
In the South, there are certain figures that take on a mythological air. They're the folks that only have one name below the Mason-Dixon-the Dollys, the Garths, the Rebas of the world. They feel like family even though you've never met them; they make you rethink your patch of ground by telling you about theirs; they conjure some old storm inside you that you didn't even know was brewing. Nashville speaker-songwriter Minton Sparks follows in the tradition of these legends-but on her own terms. Though her spoken word/honky-tonk hybrid performances elicit whoops, hollers, and general hell-raising from beer-swilling good ole boys and latte-sipping intellectuals alike; and though she's been dubbed everything from the lovechild of Flannery O'Connor and Hank Williams to a backwoods Lucinda Williams, no one knows exactly what or who Minton Sparks really is. Longtime Minton bandleader and guitarist John Jackson-a seasoned road warrior who has played with the likes of Bob Dylan. Handicapped Accessible (Limited) event. Cost is $20 per person. Phone: 770-463-9350 - Address: Oak Room at Serenbe Inn, 10950 Hutcheson Ferry Rd., Chattahoochee Hills, GA 30268

Jaimee Paul: Always & Forever - 1/21/17 at 8-10pm
In the summer of 2008, Jaimee Paul was working as a backup singer for country music legend Wynonna Judd, and they happened to be doing a gig in Alaska. Jaimee was sitting in her hotel room when the phone rang, and on the other end was Nashville music impresario Bill Gaither. "Get your music over to Green Hill," Gaither told her. Less than six months later, At Last, the most remarkable debut album by a major new jazz-and-standards singer, is being released. A collection of signature songs associated with the great female icons of jazz and pop, At Last features the distinctive sound of Ms. Paul backed by Nashville's own jazz piano icon, Beegie Adair, and her trio, as well as a sumptuous string orchestra arranged and conducted by Jeff Steinberg. Between Jaimee's big, soul-drenched voice and Jeff's big, classically informed orchestrations, At Last is an overwhelming experience. Cost is $22 to $25 per person. Phone: 770-945-6762 - Address: Buford Community Center, 2200 Buford Hwym Buford, GA 30518
