Enjoy the beauty of Sapelo as our naturalist takes you to some of the most photogenic spots on the island. Sapelo is full of ancient live oaks, towering pines and pristine beach. Make sure to bring all photography equipment with you on the ferry. Be prepared to be outdoors with water, a snack, sunscreen and bug spray. Day Trip Tour of Ossabaw Island’s Beach and North End - 4/29/17
Travel by pontoon boat with Captain Mike Neal of Bull River Cruises to the island’s North End for an interpretive tour that includes ecology and history. A walking tour of the island's North End, including the history of the Native American era, colonial-era indigo cultivation, the lives of enslaved and free African Americans, & Sandy West's 1970s era creative program. Weather and tides permitting, this trip will include a stop at Bradley Beach. Bring your own lunch and water/beverage. Hosted by the Ossabaw Island Foundation. Annual Turtle Trot 5K Beach Run - 4/29/17 at 7-10am
Tybee's Annual Turtle Trot 5K Beach Run is a favorite of runners because of the beautiful scenery. Funds raised from race entry fees support the Tybee Island Marine Science Center's Sea Turtle Project. Volunteers throughout the nesting season mark the nests, and even "babysit" them when nesting is near completion and it's time for the baby turtles to hatch. Race fee is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. After the race, stick around to watch as the Georgia Sea Turtle Center will release a rehabbed sea turtle patient into the sea! Tybee Island Wine Festival - 5/4 - 5/6/17
Taste wines from around the world and food from Tybee's best restaurants during this three-day event which includes wine and delectable dinners, and Saturday's Grand Wine Tasting with appetizers from local restaurants. SCAD Sand Arts Festival - 5/12/17 at 10am-5pm
Watch students from the Savannah College of Art and Design as they unleash their artistic talent with a unique media: sand! Sea creatures of every kind and lots of unusual designs begin to emerge from the sand as the day progresses. But, remember, these one-of-a-kind sand sculptures will only last until the evening's tide comes in and washes them away! Memorial Day Commemoration - 5/29/17 at 11am-3pm
This coastal fort will present hourly Revolutionary War soldier talks and musket and cannon demonstrations. Visitors may explore the site and find its Hidden Gem. The beautiful vista from the earthen fort, over the Medway River and out through St. Catherine's Sound, is a view that has changed very little over hundreds of years. Handicapped Accessible event.
