Mistletoe Market - 11/23/14
Glynn Art Association will host a Mistletoe Market Christmas festival at its Visual Arts Center in the Pier Village area on St. Simons Island. Tents will surround the outside of the building where exhibitors will display their hand-crafted art. The main gallery area will be full of trees adorned with various gift-giving ideas. Misletoe Market is the "prime opportunity to buy unusual presents for everyone on your list. On Nov. 21, Glynn Art will light the parking lot for a preview party for a special evening for patrons and sponsors from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Show hours are on Nov. 22 - 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call for cost. Okefenokee Swamp Park Annual Light Show - 11/28 - 11/30/14
This festive wilderness light show is enjoyed by young and old alike, and has become an annual tradition for many. Bring a blanket or afghan and snuggle on the trains as they make their way along a 1.25-mile rail at the Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross, where thousands of lights and numerous outdoor displays can be viewed. Kiddies also can ride a miniature train just for little ones. Then, walk through the park and enjoy a meal or snacks (including gator tail) at the Peach Pit Snack Shack. Tickets go on sale after 4:30 p.m. each evening and are first-come, first-served. Last train of the night is at 9:00 p.m. Cost is $6-$10 per peson. Billy's Island & Okefenokee Swamp Tour - 11/29/14
Join us for a tour of historic Billy's Island. This island was home to Native Americans, pioneers, and lumbermen for thousands of years. We will take a boat out to the island and hike the short trail, about 3/4 of a mile, and view some of the relics left from times past. Cost is $15-$20 per person and $5 parking fee. Sugar Cane Harvest & Craft Show - 11/29/14 at 10am-4pm
Join Geechee Kunda for the annual Sugarcane Harvest. Using a historic grinder, the harvest will allow attendees to see the entire process of how sugarcane is made. Also on display will be art from numerous individuals including photos, paintings, quilts and more. Geechee Kunda is home to numerous African artifacts which tell the story of the people who worked on the Retreat Plantation in Riceboro. Hourly performances and demonstrations begin at 12 noon.
