Pet Adopt-a-Thon - 5/27/17 at 8am-12noon
Adopt a cat or dog, enjoy raffles and exhibits from local animal-associated businesses, bring your leashed pet to enjoy our nature trails and participate in a vaccine clinic. Red Bird Creek Guided Hike - 5/28/17 at 10-11:30am
Guided hike to the observation deck overlooking Red Bird Creek. We will be viewing the creek and its inhabitants. The hike will be 2-3 miles long. Please bring water to stay hydrated. Magnificent Marsh Kayak Trip - 5/28/17 at 5-7:30pm
What better way is there to experience the marshes around Crooked River than to kayak? This low-tide, four-mile loop paddle is great for beginners. You'll even have a chance to stretch your legs as you explore sandbars and enjoy the scenery. Reservations are required by 8 p.m. the day prior to the paddle. Memorial Day Commemoration - 5/29/17 at 11am-3pm
This coastal fort will present hourly Revolutionary War soldier talks and musket and cannon demonstrations. Visitors may explore the site and find its Hidden Gem. The beautiful vista from the earthen fort, over the Medway River and out through St. Catherine's Sound, is a view that has changed very little over hundreds of years. Handicapped Accessible event. Two Trails, One Day - National Trails Day - 6/3/17 at 9am-12noon
We will begin with a hike on Big Creek Nature Trail. Keep your eyes peeled for the gopher tortoise and indigo snake. Meet at the Visitor's Center. Then at 11 a.m., we will meet at Picnic Shelter #7 to hike down the Laura Walker Lake Trail to the boardwalk, where you may enjoy yourself at your own pace and head back up the trail at your leisure. Hofwyl is known mainly for its live oak trees, but dozens of different species of trees and shrubs can be found on the property. Can you tell the difference between a live oak and laurel oak? How about the difference between a magnolia and a holly? Join us for a guided hike focused on tree identification and learn more about these native species. Admission cost is $5 to $8 per person.
