Science Saturday: Science of Climate & Reptile Survival

From the ancient mysteries of the deep ocean to the secrets of the trees and soil on land, climate conditions are critical for reptilian survival. Join us for Science Saturday on January 13, 2018, to "Brave the Elements" and unearth careers of studying turtle environments. Learn about geology of the ancient ocean depths and discover the oldest known sea turtle species through paleontology. Talk with our staff for a better understanding of climatology and why reptiles require specific environmental conditions as well as the impacts of changes in their climate.

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is proud to offer Science Saturday events. These events allow families to learn together while exploring the center. Each event will covering a predefined sea turtle or general turtle-related topic.

Bird Brains Nature Camp

School's out and parents are invited to send their K - 8th graders to nature camp. This camp is for all the bird brains out there that are interested in learning more about our feathered friends. We will explore the birds that call Crooked River their home and discover their habitats. Limited space, pre-registration required.

Jekyll Island Marathon

2018 Liberty County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade

The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade is the culmination of a week-long observance of the civil rights leader that attracts participants from the surrounding coastal counties. Each year, this parade highlights the sense of community in Liberty County and celebrate the footprints Dr. King made here when he, and other civil rights leaders, came and trained at the Historic Dorchester Academy. The Dorchester Academy served as the planning site for the historic Birmingham March. The parade begins at 10 am, and concludes near noon where there will be a commemorative service held at Bradwell Institute. Events are free and open to the public..

2018 Critz Tybee Run Fest – 10th Anniversary
2/2/18 - 2/3/18 Friday: 6:00PM / Saturday: 7:00AM

The Critz Tybee Run Fest is an annual weekend event, combining five different races from 1 mile to 13.1 miles, totaling up to the 26.2 mile marathon distance. In addition to a world-class race atmosphere, the race weekend provides entertainment for families and friends. Proceeds from the event benefit local organizations that foster education and healthy lifestyles.

Schedule of Events:

Friday, February 2, 2018:
Friday races start and finish at the Lighthouse (30 Meddin Ave)

6 p.m. – Byrd's Famous Cookies 1/7 Mile Kiddie Run. Registration is free for all participants, but is required to receive race shirt, bib and finisher's medal.

6:15 p.m. – 5K. North Beach Bar and Grill 5K immediately following the 5K. Stick around for food and drinks.

Saturday, February 3, 2018:
Saturday races start on 15th Street and finish on 16th Street.

7 a.m. – 10K
8:30 a.m. – Chu's Half Marathon
12 p.m. – Lighthouse Pizza, 2.8 Mile Beach Run
1 p.m. – 1 Mile
1:30 p.m. – Final Overall Awards Ceremony.

Mardi Gras Festival
2/10/18 - 2/10/18 7:00AM - 5:30PM

Join us for a family-oriented festival in Historic St. Marys featuring a bicycle tour, 5K run, street dance, parade, arts, crafts, food vendors and games. We also offer on-stage music, entertainment and a karoke contest. Lots of fun for all ages. Free admission.
