For the past two years, local businesses and the fans opened their arms to help create one of the most talked about Elvis events of the year. The annual event is a three-day festival celebrating the life and music of Elvis Presley through live performances of his music. It is sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., the company that controls the estate of Elvis Presley and operates Graceland. Known as Georgia's "Little Amazon," the Altamaha is a mighty river. It drains the second largest watershed on the east coast into the Atlantic Ocean at a rate of over 100,000 gallons per second. Its main stem, forming in Lumber City at the confluence of the Oconee and Ocmulgee rivers, is undammed and free-flowing, creating a relatively intact and healthy ecosystem that is home to more than 100 rare and endangered species – the largest concentration in the state. The Altamaha is also a little known paradise for paddling, bird watching and camping. Photographers, artists and nature lovers enjoy the abundance of wildlife found in this pristine waterway. Christ Church Tour of Homes - 3/21/15 at 10am-5pm
The Christ Church Tour of Homes is a traditional springtime celebration in the Golden Isles. Coordinated by the Episcopal Church Women, the annual tour is the major fundraising drive of the Church for the year and benefits area charities for women and children in need. Headquarters for the tour will be at the Parish House adjacent to Christ Church, Frederica where visitors will enjoy beautiful music and light refreshments. Beginning in 1935, the Women's Auxiliary of Christ Church provided a direct response to charitable needs in Savannah as a result of the Great Depression.The first Tour featured five homes showcased in one evening and raised $50 for the community. The Tour continued to grow over the decades. In 1976, a partnership was formed between the Women of Christ Church Anglican (founded in 1733 with the founding of Savannah) and the Historic Savannah Foundation, a nationally recognized leader in historic preservation.
