9th Annual Mardi Gras Tybee - 2/25/17 at 12noon
The party features blues and rock music from 3 - 6 p.m. Thrilling street performances entertain revelers as they enjoy the festival and colorful businesses in the area. Enjoy Cajun food and fun on Tybee Island. The 2016 Mardi Gras Tybee Parade, with colorful floats, plenty of beads and marching bands, begins Saturday at 3 p.m. Handicapped Accessible event. Small World Festival - 3/4/17 at 10am-4pm
This is an exciting celebration of the diverse cultures found in Liberty County and around the world. Individuals of all heritages join together to celebrate and educate the crowds about their lineage. Many cultures are represented to excite your senses through an International Food Court, World Market Place and cultural entertainment. The all-day event is held in downtown Hinesville in historic Liberty County in the late spring. We will have a survival mini-series for valuable outdoors skills. Afterwards, enjoy a guided nature hike or crack open a good book. We will end the day with a full moon paddle around the lake. 8th Annual Jazz ‘n Art on Satilla Riverwalk - 3/18 at 9am-5pm & 3/19/17 at 10am-4pm
Highly acclaimed saxophonist, Michael Hulett, will bring the 'Jazz' and local artists and master craftswomen/men will bring the 'Art' along with an en plein air paint out led by Mary O. Smith on Saturday. This year the event will expand to bring National Storyteller Andy Offutt Irwin and other tellers. Sponsored by the Woodbine Woman's Club, this event offers 'South of Brunswick' stew, desserts and beverages (for purchase). Jewish Food & Culture Festival - 3/19/17 at 12noon-4pm
The entire community is invited to learn more about the Jewish culture by experiencing the music, ceremonies, and, in particular, the delicious traditional food. Admission to the festival is free. Temple members will sell varieties of tasty foods and drinks. There will be activities for children, Israeli dancing and a raffle. Proceeds will go to the 125+ year old temple's restoration and building fund. Atlanta's Marla Tov Cocktails, featuring Marla Fennel, will provide traditional Eastern European music during the festival. We look forward to seeing everyone at this fabulous fun event. Annual Rail Watch - 4/1/17 at 8am-5pm
Rail watchers from all over the world come to watch trains at the Historic Depot Train Museum and the Folkston Funnel Platform. Enjoy photography, videos and other rail fans. "The Folkston Funnel" is located in downtown Folkston, Georgia. It is a CSXT double-track main line. All of CSXT's trains moving to and from Florida (except the few trains that go west) must pass through the funnel. There are six Amtrak trains passing through the funnel each day; the Auto Train is one of these. The Tropicana Juice Train moves from Bradenton, FL, to Kearney, NJ, five nights a week. The platform is equipped with a scanner tuned to CSXT's frequency 160.590 and 160.320. Lights and electric outlets are available. A picnic table, grill and restrooms are available for visitors. Golf Tournament - 4/1/17
This is your chance to support your park and have a blast while you are at it. This will be a shotgun start tournament. Prizes for the tournament are as follows: 1st place wins $200, 2nd place wins $120, and 3rd place wins $80. There will be several contests including: longest drive, closest to the pin (3x), most accurate drive and a pitching wedge obstacle course. Applications are available at The Lakes club house and at the Visitor's Center at Laura S. Walker State Park. Teams are limited to four participants. Lunch will be provided. Art In The Park takes place in the lovely Vernon Square, just steps from the Darien Waterfront Park and Historic Downtown Darien. The juried show and sale featuring painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor, or pastel), sculpture and fine crafts (fiber art, pottery, jewelry, stained glass), is a part of the annual Blessing of the Fleet festival. Day Trip Tour of Ossabaw Island’s Beach and North End - 4/29/17
Travel by pontoon boat with Captain Mike Neal of Bull River Cruises to the island’s North End for an interpretive tour that includes ecology and history. A walking tour of the island's North End, including the history of the Native American era, colonial-era indigo cultivation, the lives of enslaved and free African Americans, & Sandy West's 1970s era creative program.
