Lockerly Arboretum is a private, non-profit educational enterprise designed to enhance the cultural and aesthetic life of the Milledgeville area. The Arboretum, home to over 3,000 kinds of plants from around the world, is a fifty acre living museum with outdoor and indoor classrooms.
Situated on the south side of Milledgeville, it is on the southern edge of GA’s rolling Piedmont Province and just above the Fall Line (the prehistoric coastline). Because of this strategic location, the Arboretum straddles 2 climate zones, and its diversity embraces flora that normally would be found on the Costal Plain as well as those found in the mountains. The Arboretum has hiking and driving trails throughout the property along with tropical and desert greenhouses.
Tour By car or bicycle: Gravel roadways wind through the gardens and collections on our 50 acre property. Please remain on the gravel roads to protect the grounds and collections.
Tour On foot: Walking along the gravel roadways and hiking the short trails is encouraged; however, many areas are not wheelchair accessible.
Pets must be leashed at all times and must be controlled so that they do not urinate on, defecate in, or enter garden beds. Owners must clean up after their pets. Pets are not allowed in the greenhouse, education building, the Woods Museum, or in Lockerly Hall. |
