Atlanta’s Big Destination Parks
Piedmont Park
Midtown’s 193-acre central park, with Lake Clara Meer, the Active Oval, dog parks, the Sharon E. Lester Tennis Center and a summer aquatic center. It borders the Atlanta Botanical Garden. 400 Park Dr. NE.
Chastain Memorial Park
The city’s largest park at 268 acres, in Buckhead: a 3-mile PATH loop, playgrounds, a pool, horse stables, the Cadence Bank Amphitheatre, a tennis center and the 18-hole Chastain Park golf course. 135 W. Wieuca Rd. NW.
Shirley Clarke Franklin Park
Opened in 2021 as Westside Park and renamed in 2025 for the former mayor. The roughly 280-acre site wraps a drinking-water reservoir in the old Bellwood Quarry, with overlooks and trails. 1090 Lois St. NW.
Grant Park
A 131-acre Victorian-era park in southeast Atlanta and home to Zoo Atlanta, with shaded trails, playgrounds and a summer pool. 840 Cherokee Ave. SE.
Freedom Park
About 189 acres of linear green space with the Freedom Park Trail linking Downtown, the Carter Center, Little Five Points and Druid Hills. Moreland Ave. at North Ave. NE.
Historic Fourth Ward Park
An 18-acre park on the Beltline Eastside Trail near Ponce City Market, built around a stormwater pond, with a skatepark, playground and outdoor theater. 664 Angier Ave. NE.
Woodruff Park
Downtown’s 3-acre central green beside Georgia State University, with a fountain, reading room and events. 91 Peachtree St. NE.
Cascade Springs Nature Preserve

Tup Holmes is named for Alfred “Tup” Holmes, who led the 1955 fight to desegregate Atlanta’s public golf courses. Bobby Jones, rebuilt in 2018 as a reversible nine-hole course, is home to the Georgia State Golf Association.
