This 242-acre park is at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Driving from the south, visitors pass through Neel Gap, a beautiful mountain pass near Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia.
Vogel is particularly popular in the fall, when the Blue Ridge Mountains turn into a rolling blanket of red, yellow, and gold.
Lake Trahlyta Is Drained for Dam Repairs (2026)
Georgia State Parks has drained Lake Trahlyta for repairs to its dam, and the Lake Trahlyta Loop Trail and waterfall access are closed. Until the lake is refilled, plan on no lake swimming, beach, or boat rentals. Cabins, campsites, and the park’s other facilities remain open. No reopening date has been posted, so call the park at 706-745-2628 before you go.

Camping & Lodging
40-Foot Campsites
Hold 1-2 tents, a pop-up trailer, or a trailer/motorhome up to 40'. Water, 30 amp electrical (limited 50 amp sites available first come, first served), picnic table, grill, and fire ring. No cable. Maximum 6 people and 2 vehicles per site. Washer/dryer is at the Visitor Center, not in the campground.
Walk-In Campsites
Hold 1 full-size tent, or 1 full-size tent plus 1 two-man pup tent. Hike-in only, sites are 1,500 feet from parking, with a picnic table and grill but no electricity or water. Tents must be pitched on designated pads. Maximum 6 people, no vehicles.
Pioneer Campsite
Primitive, rugged, groups of 10+ only, not accessible by road (3/10 mile hike-in, vehicles parked in a designated area). No water or electricity; two Adirondack shelters, a picnic shelter, and a pit toilet. Campground showers are off-limits here ($2/person charge if used). All campers must be at the site by 10 p.m.
Group Shelter
Heat, air conditioning, ceiling fans, stove, sink, refrigerator, table and chairs, and a BBQ pit. Near the swimming beach with a connected restroom. Handicap accessible.
Cottages
1-Bedroom
Main room has two double beds, bedroom has one double bed. Sleeps 6, one full bath. Linens provided, fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, fireplace (wood not provided), heat/AC. No TV, no phone.
1-Bedroom Efficiency

Log Cabin

Picnic Shelters
All visitors are required to have a ParkPass.

- Shelter #2 – near the lake and mini golf, across from the Visitor Center
- Shelter #3 – on the hill across from the lake, enclosed on 3 sides
- Shelter #4 – accessible by Hwy 180, no direct drive inside the park

Reservations & Cancellation Policy
Cancellations
Must be made at least 3 days before arrival for a refund, minus a handling fee. Changes made within 3 days of arrival count as a cancellation and forfeit the deposit.
Cottage Reservations (7-14 day)
Cancellations 30+ days out get a deposit refund minus the facility's cancellation fee. Inside 30 days but before 72 hours of arrival, request a refund in writing; if rebooked for the same dates, you'll get a full refund minus the cancellation fee. Within 72 hours of arrival, no refund is given.
Check-In/Check-Out
Check-in is 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., check-out before 1 p.m. Register and present a reservation confirmation before setting up. Not arriving on the first night counts as a no-show, canceling the reservation and forfeiting the deposit.
Reservation Changes
One change is allowed at no charge with 3 days' notice. Additional changes incur a per-reservation handling fee.
