Southern Wings is a small, informal bird club for Lawrenceville and the surrounding Gwinnett County area. Members meet to learn about the birds around them, walk local parks together in spring and fall, and help each other get better at spotting and identifying what they see. Beginners are welcome.

Bird Walks
Members lead guided walks in the spring and fall. Favorite Gwinnett County spots have included Yellow River Park, Tribble Mill Park and George Pierce Park. In Clayton County, the Water Authority’s treatment wetlands and its Newman Wetlands Center in Hampton are also favorites for wetland birds. Walks run by other local groups are open to members too.
Programs and Classes
Monthly meetings feature a program. Past topics have included bird migration, landscaping for wildlife, bats, filming birds at feeders and nest boxes, the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, feeding birds, hummingbirds, macaws, and birding trips to Brazil and Africa. Experienced members also teach birding classes.
