This 1,070-acre state park is known for its crystal-clear springs, flowing about 7 million gallons of water per day, and the beautiful boardwalk which spans the cool water.
During warmer months, visitors may watch for alligators, turtles and other wildlife near the springs. The park is also the site of Camp Lawton, a Civil War prison camp whose remains have been excavated by Georgia Southern University; a small museum at the park tells the story, and you can still walk past the earthworks.
Lake Closed to Boating
Georgia State Parks reports that the park’s lake is currently closed to rentals and personal vessels (boats, kayaks and canoes) because of extremely low water levels. Call the park at 478-982-1660 for the latest before you bring a boat.

Camping
50-Foot Campsites
Sites hold 1 tent, 2 tents, a pop-up trailer, or a trailer or motorhome up to 50 feet. Water, 30-amp electric (a limited number of 50-amp sites are first come, first served), picnic table, grill and fire ring. No cable hookups. The comfort station has a washer/dryer. Maximum 6 people and 2 vehicles per site.
Walk-In Tent Sites
Three tent-only walk-in sites for 1 or 2 tents. No electricity, and one shared water source for all three sites. The small parking area near the edge of the woods holds one car per site. Maximum 6 people per site.
Pioneer Campground
A primitive group campground. Call the park for capacity limits and availability.
Cottages
2-Bedroom Cottages
Two queen beds in each bedroom, sleeping 8, with one full bath. Bed and bath linens provided. Fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, wood-burning fireplace (wood not provided), heat/AC, satellite TV and DVD player. No phone. Screened porch, picnic table, grill and fire ring out back. Cottage #2 is closest to the lake, and one 2-bedroom cottage is ADA accessible.
3-Bedroom Cottages
Two queen beds in each bedroom, sleeping 12, with two full baths and the same furnishings as the 2-bedroom cottages. Cottage #1 is located by the lake.
Lawton & Group Cottages
Two cottages sit off by themselves in the group camp area. The Lawton Cottage has queen beds and a sleeper sofa, and the Group Cottage has bunk beds for groups who bring their own linens. Both may be reserved with the group camp in season, so call the park for availability.
Picnic & Group Shelters
All visitors are required to have a ParkPass. Picnic shelters in the day-use area are open-sided and covered, with electricity, ceiling fans and large group grills, and most have water; restrooms and playgrounds are nearby, and two shelters sit by themselves near the Spring Boardwalk.
Group Shelter (“Casino”)
A historic enclosed building near the office with a rustic character: wood floors, heart pine paneling and high ceilings. Folding banquet tables and chairs, a kitchen with stove, refrigerator and sink (no cooking or serving utensils), fireplace, electric heat, fans and restrooms. No air conditioning. Group grill and picnic tables outside.
Reservations & Cancellation Policy
Cancellation of a reservation must be made at least 3 days prior to arrival to receive a refund; a cancellation/handling fee per reservation will be charged. Changing your arrival date less than 3 days before the scheduled arrival counts as a cancellation and forfeits the deposit.
7–14 Day Cottage Reservations: Cancellations 30+ days in advance receive a deposit refund minus a cancellation fee. Cancelling less than 30 days but before 72 hours of arrival: request a refund in writing; if the cottage is rebooked for the original dates, you’ll receive a full refund minus a cancellation fee. Cancelling within 72 hours of arrival forfeits the one-night deposit. Deposits are required for all reservations and are posted when the reservation is made.
