Now a Carroll County Park
Formerly John Tanner State Park, this park has been run by Carroll County since 2010, and the county bought it in 2013. Book and ask questions through the county, not the state reservation line.
This 138-acre park is best known for its large sand swimming beach, and it’s a recreational haven for water lovers looking for boating and fishing too.
Two small lakes, a campground, a group lodge, miniature golf, volleyball and horseshoes make it an easy family day trip or weekend just west of Carrollton.

Camping & Lodging
40-Foot Campsites
Sites hold 1 tent, 2 tents, a pop-up trailer, or a trailer or motorhome up to 40 feet. Water, 20- and 30-amp electric, cable, picnic table, grill and fire ring. The comfort station has a washer/dryer. Maximum 6 people and 2 vehicles per site.
Pioneer Campsite
A primitive, rugged site for groups only, minimum 10 people, located by itself. No water, electricity or restrooms at the site (use the campground facilities). No vehicles at the site; park in the main lot. All groups need adult supervision.
Group Lodge
Sleeps 40 in bunk rooms, with 2 full bathrooms, a kitchen equipped to serve 40, a fireplace, large outdoor grill, screened porch, deck and AC. Bring your own linens, paper goods and soap.
Motel-Style Units
One-bedroom motel-type units (two double beds, sleeps 4) with a full bath, kitchen, heat/AC and cable TV, on the lake near the beach; Unit 6 is ADA accessible. The county’s current park page doesn’t list them, so call 770-830-2222 to confirm availability.
Picnic & Group Shelters
A daily park pass ($5 per vehicle) is required. Group shelter renters check in at the park office, and a security deposit may be required.
Picnic Shelters #1, #2 & #4
Open-sided covered shelters close to the beach, playground, restrooms and parking, each with 6 picnic tables and a grill. #2 is closest to the new bathhouse and concession stand; #4 is closest to the boat rental area.
Picnic Shelter #3
A large covered L-shaped pavilion near the beach and mini golf with water, electricity, grills and 25 picnic tables. Maximum capacity 200.
Enclosed Group Shelter
Near the woods, with a kitchen, heat/AC, large covered grill, restrooms, volleyball net and horseshoe pit.
Screened Group Shelter
Close to the beach, restrooms and mini golf, with a window fan, outdoor grill and 6 tables. Maximum 50 people.
