Lakeside picnic shelter and dock on Marbury Creek Reservoir at Fort Yargo State Park

This popular 1,816-acre park features a 1792 log fort built by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Today, visitors come for a wide variety of outdoor recreation and scenery, with the park surrounding the 260-acre Marbury Creek Reservoir.

Park Amenities

Camping & Cottages

50-Foot Campsites

Holds 1 tent, 2 tents, a pop-up trailer, or a trailer/motorhome up to 50 feet. Water, 20 & 30-amp electric, picnic table, grill and fire ring. No cable hookup. Comfort station with washer/dryer. Maximum 6 people and 2 vehicles per site.

Tent Walk-In Campsites

Holds 1 or 2 tents, hike-in only, no vehicles. Two-night minimum on weekends. Easy access to the lake – boats and canoes dock at the shoreline. Picnic table, grill and fire ring at each site; tents pitch on designated pads. Sites are 225 feet from parking, share a central water spigot, and have no electricity. Central bathhouse near the parking lot.

Pioneer Campsite

A primitive, rugged site for groups only, 10-person minimum, located by itself. Has water but no electricity, plus a fire ring and pit toilets. The area has two Adirondack shelters, a picnic shelter and a horseshoe pit. Located in a wooded section of the park about 100 yards from the lake and hiking trails; swimming, mini golf and boat rentals are 3 miles by car or 1 mile by trail.

Accessible Cottages

Two bedrooms, two double beds each, sleeps 8. One bath with tub/shower and one bath with an ADA stall only. Bed & bath linens provided. Fireplace (gas logs), heat/AC, cable TV. No phone. Combination living/dining room; full kitchen with stove/oven, coffee maker, cookware, dishes, utensils and refrigerator. Grill and picnic table outside. Accessible fishing dock and nature trail adjacent to the cottages.

Group Shelter Pavilions

All visitors are required to have a ParkPass.

Group Shelter A

Open pavilion near the beach, boat rentals, playground and mini-golf. Seating area, lights, a large grill, picnic tables, and a small kitchen with sink and refrigerator. Attached public restrooms. Parking is limited; no heat or air.

Group Shelter B

End shelter in the B Section of the park. Heat and air, ceiling fans and windows. Kitchen with sink, stove and refrigerator. Public restrooms attached. Folding tables and chairs, large grills and horseshoe pits.

Nature Center Pavilion

Open-sided covered shelter across from the multi-purpose courts. Tables, grill and restrooms. Electric and water.

Beach Pavilion

Open-sided covered shelter at the beach area. Tables, grill and restrooms. Electric and water.

Picnic Shelters 1–5

Picnic Shelter #1

Waterfront. Lights, an electric outlet, water, 4 tables, 1 grill and a horseshoe pit. Parking about 100 feet away; restrooms about 125 yards across the street. Near the beach, playground, mini-golf and boat rental area.

Picnic Shelter #2

Across the street from the beach, playground, mini-golf and boat rental. Water, lights, a concrete pad, 4 tables, 1 grill and a horseshoe pit. Restrooms about 75 yards away across the parking lot.

Picnic Shelter #3

Located in a heavily wooded area with steep slope access. Lights, an electric outlet, water, grill, horseshoe pit and a concrete pad with 4 tables. About 200 yards to the playground, boat rental and mini-golf, and about 50 yards from the restroom. Limited parking is 125 feet away.

Picnic Shelter #4

Located in the B-Section on the hillside above Shelter B, with steep slope access. No electric or lights. Grill, horseshoe pit, gravel pad and 4 tables. About 75 yards from restrooms; 3 miles by car to the beach, playground, mini-golf and boat rentals. 150 feet from parking.

Picnic Shelter #5

Located in picnic area 2. Lights, electrical outlets, water and grill, on a concrete pad. Restrooms about 100 yards away; about 400 yards to the beach and boat rentals, with a playground nearby.

All visitors to picnic shelters are required to have a ParkPass.

Reservations & Cancellation Policy

Cancellation of a reservation must be made at least 3 days prior to arrival to receive a refund; a cancellation/handling fee per reservation will be charged. Changing your arrival date less than 3 days before the scheduled arrival counts as a cancellation and forfeits the deposit.

7–14 Day Cottage Reservations: Cancellations 30+ days in advance receive a deposit refund minus the cancellation fee. Cancelling less than 30 days but before 72 hours of arrival: request a refund in writing; if the cottage is rebooked for the original dates, you’ll receive a full refund minus the cancellation fee. Cancelling within 72 hours of arrival forfeits the one-night deposit. Deposits are required for all reservations and are posted when the reservation is made.

Check-In/Check-Out: Check-in is between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m.; check-out is before 1 p.m. Campers must register and present a reservation confirmation before setting up. Not arriving on the first night of your stay counts as a no-show – your reservation is cancelled and the deposit forfeited.

Reservation Changes: One change is allowed at no charge with 3 days’ notice; additional changes incur a per-reservation handling fee.
