This 500-acre Georgia Coast park offers cozy facilities in a beautiful setting. Campsites are surrounded by Spanish moss-draped oaks, while cottages are set near the river. A nature trail winds through maritime forest and salt marsh, where hikers may see gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, herons and other coastal birds.

Driving directions: Located 7 miles north of St. Marys on GA Spur 40, or 8 miles east of I-95 Exit 3.

Park Amenities

Wildlife includes gopher tortoise, fiddler crabs, herons, snakes and turtles. The Cumberland Island ferry and a kayaking outfitter are nearby.

Camping & Shelter

50-Foot Campsites

Holds 1 tent, 2 tents, a pop-up trailer, or a trailer/motorhome up to 50 feet. Water, 30-amp electric (50-amp sites are first come, first served), picnic table, grill and fire ring. Comfort station with washer/dryer. Maximum 6 people and 2 vehicles per site. Campsites can be reserved through Georgia State Parks at 1-800-864-7275.

Pioneer Campsite

A primitive, rugged site for groups only, 10-person minimum, accommodating up to 25 people. Located by itself, with no water or electricity. Pit toilets, a fire pit and a three-sided shelter.

Group Shelter

Enclosed shelter with AC, restrooms and a kitchen. Folding tables and chairs for up to 80 people, plus 2 large grills. No pets allowed. Renter must check in at the office and sign a rental agreement; a $100 refundable security deposit (cash or check) is required at check-in. ParkPass required.

All visitors are required to have a ParkPass.

Picnic Shelter #1

Open-sided covered shelter near the boat launch, very secluded, no restrooms nearby. Electricity, water and grill.

Picnic Shelter #2

Open-sided covered shelter, not on the river. Near the playground, with water, electricity, restrooms nearby and a grill.

Picnic Shelter #3

Open-sided covered shelter on the river, with restrooms nearby, picnic tables, a large grill and electric.

Picnic Shelters #4 & #5

Open-sided covered shelters near the mini golf and restrooms, with electricity, water and grill.

Cottages

2-Bedroom

Sleeps 8, two double beds per bedroom. One full bath. Bed and bath linens provided. Fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, microwave and toaster. Electric fireplace, heat/AC, cable TV. No phone. Screened porch. All cottages have a river view; premium cottages are considered such due to size, not amenities.

3-Bedroom

Sleeps 12, two double beds per bedroom. Two full baths. Bed and bath linens provided. Fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, microwave and toaster. Electric fireplace, heat/AC, cable TV. No phone. Screened porch.

Reservations & Cancellation Policy

Cancellation of a reservation must be made at least 3 days prior to arrival to receive a refund; a cancellation/handling fee per reservation will be charged. Changing your arrival date less than 3 days before the scheduled arrival counts as a cancellation and forfeits the deposit.

7–14 Day Cottage Reservations: Cancellations 30+ days in advance receive a deposit refund minus the cancellation fee. Cancelling less than 30 days but before 72 hours of arrival: request a refund in writing; if the cottage is rebooked for the original dates, you’ll receive a full refund minus the cancellation fee. Cancelling within 72 hours of arrival forfeits the one-night deposit. Deposits are required for all reservations and are posted when the reservation is made.

Check-In/Check-Out: Check-in is between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m.; check-out is before 1 p.m. Campers must register and present a reservation confirmation before setting up. Not arriving on the first night of your stay counts as a no-show – your reservation is cancelled and the deposit forfeited.

Reservation Changes: One change is allowed at no charge with 3 days’ notice; additional changes incur a $10 per-reservation handling fee.
