This park is named for its sheer cliffs of dark-colored biotite gneiss. Spectacular features include numerous scenic overlooks with 80-mile vistas of the Southern Appalachians. Hiking trails lead visitors past wildflowers, cascading streams, small waterfalls and lush forests.

Campgrounds
Black Rock Campground - 25' Campsite holds the following equipment: 1 tent, 2 tents, a pop-up trailer, a trailer up to 25, or a motorhome up to 25'. Has water, 30 amp electrical service, picnic table, grill, fire ring. Comfort Station with Washer/Dryer. Cable. Maximum 6 people per site allowed. Maximum 2 vehicles per site.
Black Rock Fern Cove #1 Back Country Campsite - You may have up to 20 people and 3 tents. There are no facilities at this campsite. Water must be carried in. Has a fire ring. There is a 3 night maximum for the campsite. This site is located in a lush, north-slope mountain cove at an elevation of 2964 ft.
Black Rock Lookoff Mountain #2 Back Country Campsite - You may have up to 20 people and 5 tents. There are no facilities at this campsite. Water must be carried in. Has fire ring. No vehicle access. Requires a rather strenuous 3.5 mile hike over steep terrain. The site is located on the Summit of the 3162' 'Lookoff Mountain", the park's northern most peak. The site is approximately 100 yards from the spectacular 'Rock Outcrop' that make the scenic overlook.
Black Rock Laurel Ridge #3 Back Country Campsite - You may have up to 20 people and 5 tents. There are no facilities at this campsite. Water must be carried in. Has a fire ring. No vehicle access. Requires a rather strenuous hike of almost 4 miles over steep terrain. This site is locate at an elevation of 3116', on the Southwestern Spur of "Lookoff Mountain', approximately 1/2 mile from 'Lookoff Mountain' backcountry campsite.
Black Rock Creek Ridge #4 Back Country Campsite - You may have up to 20 people and 5 tents. There are no facilities at this campsite. Water is available at 'Greasy Creek', but it must be adequately treated or boiled. Is approximately 100 yards from one section of 'Greasy Creek', a scenic mountain stream. There is a three night maximium stay. No vehicle access. Requires a moderate to difficult hike in and out of site. Creek Ridge can be reached by a short hike of 1.5 miles, using the 'James Edmonds Trail's West Fork'. The site is located at an elevation of 2368'. Creek Ridge is a little narrow in regards to its layout.
Black Rock Mountain State Park View
Black Rock Pioneer Camp TSATU-GI Campground - Primitive, rugged site for Groups only. 10 person minimum. Site is located by itself. Has a large Shell Log Camping Cabin with electricity and woodburning stove. There are 4 adirondak shelters in a circle around a large fire ring, in front of the cabin. Each shelter has 8 bunks. Has grill, picnic tables, pit latrine, and running water. There are no hot showers or flush toilets for this area and no access to these types of facilities. Campers must carry gear a short walk from parking lot to site.
Black Rock Walk In Sites - This area is for hike in campers only. No vehicles allowed. All sites have a picnic table, grill, and lantern post. Walking distance to sites varies from 30' TO 150'. There is a central bathhouse. More secluded than RV sites. All tents must be pitched on designated tent pads. Pads are small and will only accommodate 2 two person tents or 1 four person tent.

Black Rock 2 Bedroom Cottage - Two bedroom cottage, sleeps 8. Each bedroom has two double beds. Has one and one half bath. Bed and bath linens provided. Fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker and microwave. Fireplace (wood not provided). AC/heat. Cable TV. No phone. (Pay phone nearby). Picnic table and grill outside.
Black Rock 3 Bedroom Cottage - Cottage has mountain view. Three bedroom cottage, sleeps 10. Two bedrooms have two double beds. Third bedroom has two single beds. Has two baths with showers only. Bed and bath lines provided. Fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker and microwave. Fireplace (wood not provided). AC/heat. Cable TV. No phone (pay phone nearby). Picnic table and grill outside.
Picnic Shelters
Black Rock Picnic Shelters - Picnic Shelter #1 - Open-sided covered shelter. Shelter is known as the 'Overlook Shelter' and is located adjacent to 3446 ft Black Rock Overlook. Has water, electric, grill, and tables. All visitors are required to have a park pass. Picnic Shelter #2 - Open-sided covered shelter, shelter is known as 'Playground Shelter' and is located adjacent to the playground. Has water, electric, grill and tables. All visitors are required to have a parkpass.

Look for brown directional signs in Mountain City. Driving Directions: From Atlanta: Take I-85N to I-985N. Remain on 4 lane through Tallaulah Falls and on US 441N through Clayton. 3 miles N Of Clayton, in Mountain City, turn left onto Black Rock Mountain Parkway. Steep mountain road to the park. Highway conditions may be hazardous in winter months.

Reservations Cancellation Policy
Cancellation of a reservation must be made at least 3 days prior to the date of arrival in order to receive a refund. A cancellation/handling fee per reservation will be charged. Changes in arrival date made less than 3 days prior to the scheduled arrival will constitute a cancellation and forfeit of the deposit. 7-14 day Cottage Reservation Guidelines: All cancellations received 30 days in advance will receive deposit refund minus the cancellation fee per facility.

If a customer requests to cancel less then 30 days in advance but before 72 hours of arrival, the customer may request refund in witting to the site. If cottage is rebooked for the time period originally reserved, site will have Customer Service issue a full refund to the customer minus $10 cancellation fee. If reservation is cancelled within 72 hours of arrival date no refund of the one night deposit will be given. Deposits are required for all reservations. Credit card deposits are posted when the reservation is made.

Check-in - Check-in is between 1 pm and 10 pm and check-out is before 1 pm. Campers must register and present a reservation confirmation before setting up. If you do not arrive on the first night of your stay, you will be counted as a no-show, your reservation will be cancelled, and you will forfeit your deposit.

Reservation Changes (Changes in arrival dates, transfers, etc.)
You may make one change without a charge, provided a 3-day notice is given. Additional changes will incur a $10 per reservation handling fee.

Note: There is no water at the sites from 11/1 to 4/1, and there is a steep grade up mountain.
