This 1,177-acre park combines the recreational fun of a state park with the educational resources of a historic site.
It is named after Alexander H. Stephens, vice president of the Confederacy and later governor of Georgia. The park features a Civil War museum with one of the finest collections of Civil War artifacts in Georgia, including uniforms and documents, and Stephens’ home, Liberty Hall, restored to its 1875 style, fully furnished and open for tours.
Beautiful outdoor facilities make this park a treat for nature lovers and history buffs. Three lakes, lakeside cottages and miles of horse trails make it a favorite with anglers and equestrians, and the lakeside group camp is a popular location for overnight gatherings.

Driving directions: Located 2 miles north of I-20 off Exit #148 (Hwy. 22). Turn right at the junction of Hwy 22 and Hwy 278. Turn left at the traffic light. Go 2 blocks, turn left, then make an immediate right. Follow signs to the park office. If your RV is taller than 12’ 10”, take Exit #148, travel 2 miles and go across the junction of Hwy 22 and Hwy 278. Turn right onto MLK, Jr. Dr. NW, go 1 mile, turn left onto Alexander Street and follow signs to the park office.
Liberty Hall & the Civil War Museum
Guided tours of Liberty Hall and the museum run Friday through Sunday. Historic site admission is $8 for adults (18–61), $6 for seniors (62+), $5 for youth (6–17) and $2 for children under 6. The park’s Teacher’s Resource for Touring Historic Sites makes it a good field trip stop.

Camping
Regular Campsites
Sites hold 1 tent, 2 tents, a pop-up trailer, or a trailer or motorhome up to 60 feet or longer. Water, 30-amp electric (50-amp sites are first come, first served), picnic table, grill and fire ring. Comfort station with washer/dryer. No cable. Maximum 6 people and 2 vehicles per site.
Equestrian Campground
29 equestrian campsites and 30 horse stalls put you right at the trailheads for 21 miles of riding trails.
Pioneer Campsite
Primitive, rugged site for groups only, 10-person minimum, located by itself. No water, electricity or showers. Access to day-use restrooms and the adjacent picnic shelter.
Group Camp
Reminiscent of going away to summer camp and perfect for large youth gatherings, the lakeside group camp accommodates up to 150 guests and includes a dining hall. Linens are not provided, and a deposit is required.
Cottages
Two-Bedroom Cottages
Sleeps 8, one full bath, two double beds in each bedroom. Bed and bath linens provided. Gas-log fireplace, heat/AC, TV with DVD player and satellite TV. No phone. Screened porch overlooking the lake. Fully equipped kitchen with microwave, stove/oven, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes and refrigerator.
Accessible Cottage
ADA-accessible two-bedroom cottage that sleeps 6, with one full bath, two double beds in one bedroom and a king in the other. Linens provided, fully equipped kitchen, gas-log fireplace, heat/AC and satellite TV. No phone. Screened porch overlooking the lake.
One cottage is dog friendly (fee per dog, maximum 2).
Picnic & Group Shelters
All visitors are required to have a ParkPass.
Picnic Shelter
Open-sided covered shelter next to the paddle boats and playground. Water, electricity and grill.
BBQ Shelter
The BBQ area has 4 large racks for barbecue, 14 picnic tables, grills, water and electricity, with two open-sided covered shelters.
Group Shelter
Enclosed shelter near the office for up to 120 people. Heat/AC, sink, tables and chairs, commercial stove and refrigerator, restroom, large outdoor BBQ grill and a playground.
Reservations & Cancellation Policy
Cancellation of a reservation must be made at least 3 days prior to arrival to receive a refund; a cancellation/handling fee per reservation will be charged. Changing your arrival date less than 3 days before the scheduled arrival counts as a cancellation and forfeits the deposit.
7–14 Day Cottage Reservations: Cancellations 30+ days in advance receive a deposit refund minus a cancellation fee. Cancelling less than 30 days but before 72 hours of arrival: request a refund in writing; if the cottage is rebooked for the original dates, you’ll receive a full refund minus a cancellation fee. Cancelling within 72 hours of arrival forfeits the one-night deposit. Deposits are required for all reservations and are posted when the reservation is made.
Check-In/Check-Out: Check-in is between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m.; check-out is before 1 p.m. Campers must register and present a reservation confirmation before setting up. Not arriving on the first night of your stay counts as a no-show – your reservation is cancelled and the deposit forfeited.
Reservation Changes: One change is allowed at no charge with 3 days’ notice; additional changes incur a per-reservation handling fee.
