History and General Info
Thomasville Cultural CenterThe Center diverse exhibits include masterworks from a permanent collection and the work of talented regional artists.

A collaboration with the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation brings nationally celebrated music performers to the Center’s auditorium. The Thomasville Cultural Center, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) organization, is housed in the historic East Side Elementary School building, built in 1915.

In the 1980’s, this beautiful building was saved from demolition thanks to the efforts of residents who worked to preserve and then restore the building’s unique architecture. The Center has since become a premier fine arts center and continues to expand its outreach and programs. Today, the fully ADA compliant facility includes exhibition galleries, performing arts and rehearsal spaces, a 500-seat auditorium, classrooms, and meeting rooms.

The Thomasville Cultural Center seeks to enrich the cultural and artistic life of south-central Georgia, and surrounding areas, through the presentation of significant educational programs and opportunities in the visual, performing and literary arts. The Center strives to be all-inclusive in its wide and varied constituents.
The Center presents diverse exhibitions include masterworks from a permanent collection and the work of talented regional artists. A collaboration with the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation brings nationally celebrated music performers to the Center's auditorium. The Center hosts many other music events, including the Frances Williams Children's Community Chorus and ballets and musicals in conjunction with the South Georgia Performing Arts.

In addition, the Center hosts chamber music, jazz concerts, and an adult community chorus, The Thomasville Singers - all in conjunction with Thomas University's music department. Creativity is naturally developed through the arts, and students of all ages can attend visual and performing art classes, such as piano, pottery, painting, voice, guitar and violin. The Center also serves as a network for local visual artists and writers.

Community outreach is a key component of our mission. The Center’s visual art exhibits are open to the public, and local schools and youth organizations bring children to tour the galleries and meet artists. Through the ArtReach program, the Center’s auditorium welcomes every student in Thomas County for an educational performance each year. The Artist in Residency program allows artists to visit local schools in an effort to inspire children’s creativity. The Center also offers a summer camp each year for local children and the Boys and Girls Club. These children have the opportunity to experience the visual and performing arts. Our outreach includes partnerships with the Thomas County Resource Center and Bishop Hall Charter School.

The center’s constant efforts to embrace the entire community and to present important artistic programs, at little or no cost to the public, make it unique in SW Georgia.
