Save The Horses
Save The Horses Rescue is one of the most unique places I have visited in Georgia. It is located in Cumming Georgia. The entrance to and from this rescue location is on a dirt road just before the gate. As you enter this place, get ready for a great experience! Best of all, it's free! Save the horses was created to address the urgent need for rescue services and equine public education. This is an all-volunteer organization, operating solely on tax-deductible donations to their 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.

This is a wonderful place to go outdoors with your children. They can take a few moments from their indoor activities such as video games, and explore the great outdoors. Children of all ages love this place. It's an experience they are drawn to. They get to enjoy the outdoors, meet other children and can volunteer to help save these beautiful horses, minature horses, mules, donkeys, goats, chickens and more.

Save The Horses was started in 1998 by Cheryl Flannigan. She saw a need for helping horses that are abused, about to be sold at auction, have medical issues or were sent to animal control. The number of horses varies on a daily basis. Horses can be adopted from here for free, provided the potential qualifies to have the horse. Some are adopted and still live here.

There are plenty of opportunities for families to volunteer helping out here. Since horses and other farm animals here are expensive to take care of, volunteer help is really needed. Volunteering activities include cleaning stalls, giving water to the horses, cleaning up the wash rack, grooming the horses and moving supplies around. In return families and children will learn to appreciate these fine animals. They will help save their lives too. Children will know what the beautiful outdoor experience is about. They will also get exercise and learn about compassion.

Many families and home schoolers come here from different parts of Georgia. It is especially popular with people from metro-Atlanta Georgia.

They are committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of equines suffering from abuse, as well as the successful retirement of working equines. They also aim to improve the public awareness and knowledge regarding the standards of care necessary to keep equines healthy and safe.

Their primary goal is to save horses. The organization is made up of volunteers with a mission to stop horses from being abused or sent to slaughter. With that in mind, they have made a commitment that any horses sent to Save The Horses will not be sold or sent to slaughter. They will, however, have equines humanely euthanized if the quality of life is suffering.

Save The Horses offers ongoing rescue educational classes and clinics for horse owners and enthusiasts, as well for their volunteers.

Equines have an ability to improve the quality of life, health and well being for people with and without disabilities. Through therapeautic and enjoyable equine activities, people of all ages learn horsemanship, which stimulates physical, mental and emotional growth.

Their programs use the rescued horses to help children and adults improve their lives through the movement and involvement with these horses. Working with horses can also give a therapeutic effect on people struggling with psychological problems. Their program for Foster Children is in its initial phase.
