This program will cover the basics of how to develop or improve your existing landscape plan. Principles of landscape design as well as site analysis and plant selection will be covered. Harvest Festival - 11/7 - 11/8/09 - Call for times
Our annual Harvest Festival features cane syrup grinding and boiling. You may purchase your syrup "hot" from the pot if you desire. The mules will be turning the gears for the cotton gin and guests can see cotton seeds removed from the bolls the way it was done in the 1850s. The annual Dutch oven cooking contest offers prizes to winners of the competition. Register in advance to be a cooking competitor. Kids can play period games, rake and stack hay (and even climb in if they want). Musicians will serenade you to period music, Blue Grass and other music while in the village. For this one day only Westville hosts a historical timeline of Georgia History of figures who helped to make Georgia History. Our renactors will bring those historical characters alive and demonstrate their contribution of Georgia History. Meet Native Americans, James Oglethorpe, Hernando DeSoto, Revolutionary Soldier, African Slave, and Sequoyah, while at the same time learning about life in an 1850s village. Westville by Candlelight - 12/5/09 at 10 am - 4 pm
This is truly magical with over 700 luminaries lighting the pathways, candles in every window, and costumed interpreters in many houses depicting Christmas in 1850. Live vignettes will be in several houses which portray English, Scottish, German and Slave Christmas traditions. Music and dancing can be heard throughout, and guests are invited to participate in some of the dancing. The Kiser House restaurant will offer special seasonal food. This is an evening event. Smoke on the Water is an annual fundraiser for the Local Volunteer Fire Departments and the Harbor House which temporarily houses children who have been removed from their home. With seven volunteer fire departments in the community and the Harbor House, Smoke on the Water set a goal to give each charity $1000 each. With over 75 sponsors pitching in and 45 professional cooking teams from around the Southeast, Smoke on the Water was able to raise over $8000 reaching its goal in its first year giving each charity $1200 each.
