Choirs will herald the season alongside a visit from Mayor Jim Wetherington and Santa to do the honors of lighting the tree. Organizers have arranged to have snow created in order to guarantee a “White Christmas” for young and old alike. And with a little help from the Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari, Santa’s reindeer will fly in from the North Pole just for this event. Admission is free and holiday treats will be available. Westville by Candlelight - 12/5/09 at 10 am - 4 pm
This is truly magical with over 700 luminaries lighting the pathways, candles in every window, and costumed interpreters in many houses depicting Christmas in 1850. Live vignettes will be in several houses which portray English, Scottish, German and Slave Christmas traditions. Music and dancing can be heard throughout, and guests are invited to participate in some of the dancing. The Kiser House restaurant will offer special seasonal food. This is an evening event. Smoke on the Water is an annual fundraiser for the Local Volunteer Fire Departments and the Harbor House which temporarily houses children who have been removed from their home. With seven volunteer fire departments in the community and the Harbor House, Smoke on the Water set a goal to give each charity $1000 each. With over 75 sponsors pitching in and 45 professional cooking teams from around the Southeast, Smoke on the Water was able to raise over $8000 reaching its goal in its first year giving each charity $1200 each.
