Watermelon Days Festival - 6/20 - 6/22/13
People from all over Georgia and the Southeast come to participate in the many events that pay tribute to our favorite fruit, the watermelon. Over 3 weeks, a pageant, dog show, watermelon decorating contest, fishing rodeo, walk, road race and much more are held as part of the festvial. The fourth Saturday is the main festival day, featuring a parade, arts and crafts, melon eating, seed spit and chunking contest, rides for the kids and more. Handicapped Accessible (Limited) event. The Florida State "Flying High" Circus is composed of talented college students who train and perform in the circus as an extracurricular activity. Callaway Gardens Summer Farmers Market & Free Fabulous Fridays - 6/21 & 6/28/13
Kicking off the weekend will be even more fun this summer at the Callaway Gardens Farmers Market. Guests will be able to purchase items such as vegetables, fruits, eggs, meats, cheeses, herbs, honey, baked goods and healthy snacks, as well as flowers, bedding plants and potted plants. In addition, artisans and crafters will offer their creations for purchase. Evening Paddle - 6/22/13 at 7-8:30pm
Relax and enjoy an evening on the lake as you learn canoe safety and paddling techniques with our guide. Paddles, life jackets, and canoes are provided. Geared for ages 10 and up. Callaway Gardens Fly Fishing School - 6/22 - 6/23/13 at 9am-5pm
Attend weekend fly-fishing school to learn the graceful art of fly-fishing from certified instructors during prime time for fly-fishing in most parts of the country. Day One consists of classroom instruction, casting practice and lake fishing. Day Two focuses on river and stream fishing, and includes a trip to the nearby Flint River to cast for shoal bass. Callaway Gardens Adventures in DSLR Photography: Mastering Close-Up and Macro - 6/22 at 9:30am-4:30pm & 6/23/13 at 8am-12noon
This two-day intermediate-level workshop begins in the classroom, covering topics such as challenges in macro photography, managing limited depth of field, focusing techniques, equipment and gear, using flash and artistic considerations. The morning session begins with an exclusive opportunity to shoot with tripods at the Day Butterfly Center for an hour before it opens to the public. A second photo shoot will follow focusing on shooting native species.
The workshop concludes in the classroom where participants are encouraged to select their top five shots of the weekend to share in a group critique. The instructor will select an image or two to use in a live demonstration of post-processing for print using Lightroom and/or PhotoShop.

July 3rd Celebration at Lake Meriwether - 7/3/13

Adventures in DSLR Photography: Mastering 4th of July Fireworks is part of the Callaway Gardens Digital SLR Photography Workshop Series. The workshop begins at 6 p.m. with a 2 hour discussion on discovering the possibilities and overcoming the challenges of night photography. Then, participants go to Robin Beach to set up to shoot one of the best fireworks displays in the Southeast. Tripods and cable releases are required. $85 fee includes digital handout. Each Cool History event is organized around a theme, with the goal to both entertain and educate visitors with scenes depicting events or daily life in the Civil War sea services. West Georgia Idol Singing Competition - 7/13 - 7/27/13 at 6-11pm
Think You Can Sing? West Georgia Idol contest is organized as a series of concerts held in July. Audience members are treated to a series of vocal performances by contestants and to commentary by a distinguished panel of judges. In addition to gaining valuable experience, performers compete for a top prize of $1,000 and more. Who Can Enter? The West Georgia Idol contest is open to all vocal performers aged 14 years and above. Residence in the West Georgia area is not a requirement. There is an entry fee of $60, which covers up to four performances, if the performer advances all the way to the finals. (All proceeds from the contest go to a non-profit organization.) What Can I Win? The final winner of the West Georgia Idol contest receives a $1,000 cash prize, the opportunity to record a demo CD in a professional recording studio and a performance at the Smith Family Theatre in Pigeon Forge, TN. Cool History - Summer Living History Event - 8/3/13 at 10am-4:30pm
"Cool History" encompasses a variety of living history events. Georgia Veterans Memorial Triathlon and Duathlon - 8/10/13
