Shoal Lily Float - 5/30/15 at 9:30am-4pm
The Broad River Watershed Association will host a canoe float to view the rare shoal lily along the lower section of the Broad River between Highway 17 and Highway 79 at the mouth of Clark Hill Lake. We will meet at the Broad River WMA campground on Highway 79 at 9:30 a.m., and canoe from Highway 17 to Highway 79 in Elbert, Wilkes, and Lincoln counties. The rare shoal lily that grows along the Broad River should be in full bloom at this time. During the float, we will also clean up the river as part of National River Cleanup Week. Bring your own canoe or contact Michael Moody at the Broad River Outpost, (706) 795-3242, to arrange for a canoe or kayak. The Crawford W. Long Museum is offering a five-day summer history camp session for ages 5 to 8. Wormholes to History: A wormhole is a hypothetical feature that would fundamentally be a shortcut through space time. Do you believe in time travel? We do, so pack you bags and join us as we hop through history and zoom through wormholes in our very own time machine. We'll be making stops in Imperial China, Ancient Egypt, the funky decade of the 1970s, Medieval Times, and of course, a trip to the future! Holiday Gorge Floor Hike - 7/3 - 7/6/15 at 10:30am-2:30pm
This is a strenuous trek, which include hiking down 531 stairs, a river crossing, jumping from rock to rock, and climbing boulders along the side of the river to Bridal Veil Falls where you can swim. The total miles is 3.5. Children must be 10 or older. No pets; wear appropriate footwear; bring food and water. Cost is $10 per person and $5 parking fee. Space is limited.
