The historic Hardman House across from the Nacoochee Indian mound will be open for tours. Learn the secrets and history of this 145-year-old former governor's farm while on a guided tour. Bucks Corn Maze - 10/23 - 10/31/14
Buck's Corn Maze is more than just a maze!!! It's GREAT family fun for all ages. The 12 acre maze is planted in a 20 acre field next to Cochran Creek with a beautiful view of the Appalachian Mountains. Come get "LOST" in the maze. As much fun as the maze is in the daytime, it is double the fun at night. Bring your Flashlight and test your skills in the dark. The maze is "Haunted" on Saturday nights in October. Come if you dare! Drinks & snacks are available or bring a picnic and spend the afternoon. This special exhibit from the Georgia Museum of Art's permanent collection and the collection of Carl and Marian Mullis features works of art that depict animals by American self-taught artists. Friday Night Concert Series - 10/24/14 at 7pm
The Union County Historical Society invites musicians to perform a free concert in the courtroom at the Old Courthouse. On most Fridays, every bench is taken, the balcony is filled to capacity, and people line the walls of the renovated courtroom to see the show. 6th Annual Hillbilly Hog BBQ Throwdown & Fall Leaf Festival - 10/24 at 5-9pm & 10/25/14 at 10am-5pm
A professional BBQ competition sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. Not only will teams be competing for a prize pot of more than $10,000, but they will be trying to rack up points in the Southern BBQ Challenge Cup series for 2014 for the title of Grand Champion in Georgia. Other fun fall activities will include displays of local artisans and crafters, BBQ and other fair foods, entertainment Friday night and all day Saturday. Ghost Walk - 10/24 - 10/25/14 at 6-8pm
This popular Halloween season walking tour, with departures scheduled every 20 minutes, stops at seven ghostly locations on and near the Brenau campus. Must be 10 years of age or older. Tickets are available at the History Center in advance. The cost is $10 for members and $12 for non-members. Dahlonega Ghost Walk - Historic Hauntings Tour - 10/24-10/25 & 10/31/14
The 14-location guided tour takes guests on an eerie and intriguing journey full of local tales and legends. Tour guide and founder Jeremy Sharp weaves through streets, back alleys, rows of historic buildings, and the historically significant local cemetery.  He has studied Dahlonega’s history and has also worked with paranormal researchers using thermal cameras and other equipment to document some sightings. Tour is approximately 1.3 miles long. Tours, all on paved, designated walkways, with the exception of Mount Hope Cemetery, end in front of the Visitors Center, 13 South Park Street. Tours at 8pm. Historic Cemetery Tour-10/24 at 6:30-9:30pm, 10/25 5:30-9:30pm & 10/26/14 2:30-3:30pm
The Crawford Long Museum and Jefferson Community Theatre offer a living history weekend bringing some of Jefferson's past residents and their rich history to life. Local figures from the Civil War to the early 20th century will tell their stories during the last weekend in October. Moonlight guided tours will take attendees through downtown Jefferson and the Woodbine Cemetery, where actors in period costume will present dramatic first-person accounts of the lives of a half-dozen cemetery residents. This year tour attendees will meet Dr. Crawford Long, Miss Lurline Collier, Georgia's home demonstration agent, GJN Wilson, Martin Institute school superintendent, 9-year-old Alexander McCoy who died of typhoid, James Mauldin, Confederate soldier and Mary Jane Patrick, Civil War widow. A new narrative is being written by local author Trisha Slay, who is working on a paranormal mystery novel. “Haunted Dahlonega: Spirits, Legends & Lore” explains why Dahlonega is such a hotbed of activity, includes Cherokee folktales, and explores local mysteries and benevolent hauntings. Learn basic land navigation to include an explanation of the compass and how it works, true north vs. magnetic north, terrain features and contour lines, application of the compass to the map and map to the compass, and pacing will all be covered. Dawson County, Georgia, revels in its heritage of moonshine running, backwoods racing and motorsports glory, and celebrates it in grand style each year during its free, family-friendly event. The Mountain Moonshine Festival takes place on the last weekend of October, on the square in downtown Dawsonville, featuring vintage race cars, live entertainment, a car show, a swap meet, arts and crafts, great food and souvenirs. The Hallowen Half Marathon and 5K will be an annual event that kicks off this Halloween season! The event will take place in Cumming, Ga., with the start and end of the race being at The Cumming Fairgrounds. There will be plenty of parking and public restrooms available at the race site. The Halloween Half Marathon is a costume and Halloween-themed event that adds a unique twist to the traditional half marathon event. Dahlonega Ghost Walk - Historic Hauntings Tour - 11/7 - 11/8, 11/14 - 11/15, 11/21 - 11/22 & 11/28 - 11/29/14 at 8pm
The 14-location guided tour takes guests on an eerie and intriguing journey full of local tales and legends. Tour guide and founder Jeremy Sharp weaves through streets, back alleys, rows of historic buildings, and the historically significant local cemetery.  He has studied Dahlonega’s history and has also worked with paranormal researchers using thermal cameras and other equipment to document some sightings. Tour is approximately 1.3 miles long. Tours, all on paved, designated walkways, with the exception of Mount Hope Cemetery, end in front of the Visitors Center, 13 South Park Street. Exhibit: All Creatures Great and Small - 12/1 - 12/12/14
This special exhibit from the Georgia Museum of Art's permanent collection and the collection of Carl and Marian Mullis features works of art that depict animals by American self-taught artists. Paintings, sculptures and mixed-media creations by such folk masters as Thornton Dial Sr. and Mose Tolliver, and by outstanding, but relatively unheralded contemporary artists, like Ted Gordon will be on display.
