Spring Chicken Festival and Chicken Cook-Off - 4/29/17 at 10am-4pm
Experience marching bands, pageant winners, baton twirlers, floats, candy and more! Once the last float has past by, guests make a bee line to the chicken cook-off area to purchase their Cluck Card that allows 10 ample samples of flavorful, newly created and tasty chicken dishes. No need to worry, there is plenty of chicken for all to enjoy. The participants, both professional and backyard chefs, cook up 15,000 lbs of chicken all donated by our local poultry industry. 39th Annual Lake Hartwell Dam Run - 5/6/18 at 8:30am
Join us for the 39th Annual Lake Hartwell Dam Run 5K, 10K and 1-mile Fun Run on May 6, 2017, in Hartwell, Ga. One of Georgia's most scenic races, the 5K will begin in South Carolina (you will be bussed to the start, so get onsite early), and the 10K will start at Big Oaks Recreation Area on US 29 just North of Hartwell, Ga. The 10K course crosses the Savannah River Bridge and comes back across the dam. Come enjoy the "Best Dam Run Anywhere!" Packet pickup will begin at 7 a.m. at Big Oaks Recreation Area. Based on previous races, Road Race Place expects more than 300 finishers for the 10K and 600 finishers for the 5K. The race course has been certified as accurate by USA Track and Field. This is your chance to taste Georgia wines made from locally grown grapes in one location. Many of our wines have won regional, national and international competitions. Jaemor Farms 4th Annual Strawberry Festival - 5/6/17 at 9am-4pm
Festival highlights include U-pick strawberries, strawberry cook-off, petting zoo, farm tours and more. We will have artist paintings on site and Georgia's Mobile Dairy Unit. Don't forget our farm market with many samples and taste-testing opportunities! This event is fun for the entire family. Bubble Run 5K Foam Fest - 5/6/17 at 12noon-2pm
This is a fun and challenging obstacle course which includes the world's largest inflatable waterslide, mud pits and 2.5 million cubic feet of foam! There is all day music, a free kids' zone, delicious food, great vendors and beer gardens! You can sign up to run it as an individual, with your family or friends as a team. Cost is $15 per person. Toast of Toccoa - 5/6/17 at 10am-5pm
Event will feature approximately 50 artisans from the Currahee Artists Guild and other regional arts organizations who will display their artwork in separate booths set up throughout the downtown area. This event will also feature craft beer from Three Taverns Brewery in Decatur, Ga. and Service Brewing Company from Savannah, Ga. as well as wine tastings from several well-known North Georgia vineyards, including Toccoa's own Currahee Vineyards. Craft beer, wine and tastings will be available to purchase. Selected local area restaurants will also have booths featuring their specialty food items for sale. The entertainment includes the Electric City Big Band featuring big band jazz at 12:30 p.m. and the increasingly popular Nitrograss bluegrass band at 2:30 p.m. There will also be a Classic Car Show featuring dozens of restored vintage automobiles parked along Doyle Street between Sage and Alexander Streets. Tour of Georgia Gran Fondo National Championship Series Bicycle Race - 5/7/17 at 8am-3pm
Nestled in the Bavarian Alpine village of Helen, Ga., the ride starts in the heart of the North Georgia Mountains. After passing through Unicoi State Park, the route explores the Seed lake area. Riders then enter the mountainous area that was made famous by the 2003-2008 Tour de Georgia. Be sure to plan to stick around for beers, food and music at the finish line. Almost Full Moon Paddle - 5/11/17 at 8-9:30pm
This month, enjoy a naturalist-led paddle on the lake as the waxing gibbous reflects off the water. Space is limited, so register in advance. No pets; kids must be 8 or older and with an adult. Meet at the boat ramp. Bring a flash light, quick drying pants, and water. Costs are $15 with personal kayak/canoe, $25 with rental and $5 parking fee. Northeast Georgia Community Concerts Presents Emily West - 5/12/17 at 7-9pm
Waterloo, Iowa native, Emily West, moved to Nashville at the age of 18. Soon after arriving, West landed a publishing and record label deal, releasing three country singles. She was nominated with duet partner Keith Urban for the Academy of Country Music Awards in the category of "Vocal Event of the Year" for their song "Blue Sky." Later, she auditioned for America's Got Talent. As a finalist on Season 9 (2014), West won crowds over with re-imagined versions of songs like the Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin" and Sia's hit "Chandelier." 41st Annual Lula Railroad Days Festival - 5/13/17 at 10am-5pm
This is a celebration of our historic Railroad Town. Join us for a one day event of parades, entertainment, wonderful crafts, fine art and fantastic food. Don't miss the parade, on Main Street that starts at 10 a.m. It's filled with hand made floats, classic cars, antique tractors, beautiful horses and a marching band.
