Grow Cook Eat Farm & Food Tours - 7/28/16 at 10am-4pm
Explore Rabun County with us as we travel around the county tasting, talking, and experiencing why Rabun County is the Farm to Table Capital of Georgia. The Grow-Cook-Eat tours will showcase a variety of special tour participants. Each tour will be different from the rest. To make a reservation, call 706-982-4754. Swing for the Hills Annual Golf Tournament - 7/29/16
Starting at 8am, spend a day doing what you love best in the cool foothills of White County. Swing for the Hills for the annual White County Chamber of Commerce event. Registration is open! 4th Annual Shine Pedalers Metric - 7/30/16 at 7:30am-2pm
The 2016 'Shine Pedalers Metric offers two rolling routes through the beautiful hills of Dawson County. Ride rain or shine! Helmets are required. Metric Century - 62 miles; Half Metric - 31 miles. The Ride: Metric riders will climb Burnt Mountain (experienced riders only). Half Metric is for all experience levels. There is plenty of rolling hills and beautiful scenery to keep riders interested. Barker's Creek Gristmill Demonstration - 8/1/16
Barker's Creek Mill has been providing the local community with milling services since 1944. It is built on the site of an older mill that served the community since the first white settlers arrived in the area in the 1820s. The mill is powered by a 12-foot overshot wheel set on babbet bearings. The mill itself is a vertical mill with two 16" flint/granite stones. Our volunteer miller is happy to answer any questions. Our stone-ground grits and cornmeal are available for purchase at the mill, or at the Hambidge Center gallery and gift shop. Free admission and parking. Barker's Creek Mill has been providing the local community with milling services since 1944. It is built on the site of an older mill that served the community since the first white settlers arrived in the area in the 1820s. The mill is powered by a 12-foot overshot wheel set on babbet bearings. The mill itself is a vertical mill with two 16" flint/granite stones. Our volunteer miller is happy to answer any questions. Our stone-ground grits and cornmeal are available for purchase at the mill, or at the Hambidge Center gallery and gift shop. Free admission and parking. A Long And Accomplished Life Exhibit Opens - 10/22 & 10/25 - 10/29/16
This exhibition will feature a surgical re-enactment of the first painless surgery and musical entertainment by Sally and the Jefferson Fiddle Kids. The exhibit, which replaces the Medicine of the Civil War exhibit, will include documents and items from the vault relating to Dr. Long that have not previously been on display. Behind the Scenes Tour - 12/18/16 at 4-6pm
Get up close and personal with animals not seen on regular zoo visits. See babies from the nursery, including bottle-fed kangaroos, deer and more! Experience and take part in the training and enrichment of animals from owls to zebras. Allow three hours for the tour, including time at your leisure in the farm petting area.
