Taste of Georgia / Athens Vendors

2017 Walk to End Alzheimer's

Take the first step to a world without Alzheimer's. Join our 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, October 14, 2017, in Downtown Gainesville Square. All funds raised through this event further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Every walker must sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee. However, we ask every walker to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer's.

Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child.

Fall Celebration Festival

Travel back in time to an old fashioned country fair surrounded by the colors of the season. Vendors will be selling hand-made Appalachian products like baskets, soaps, pottery and more. Learn to make candles, butter and cider from a hand-cranked press.

The Big House will be open for self-guided tours of the first floor. Try your luck in the potato sack race or three legged race. Enjoy lunch and treats such as fried pies and boiled peanuts as you listen to mountain music.

Second Saturday Guided Hikes

Take a guided hike through the captivating scenery of Smithgall Woods on the Martin's Mine Trail. Guided hikes will be offered every second Saturday of the month (weather permitting). Lake Hartwell Music Festiva

Bubble Run 5K

If you've ran a typical 5K, you know it's more exercise than excitement. But the Bubble Run™ is nothing but fun! Clad in white t-shirts, adults, kids and strollers run, walk, dance and play across 3 miles of absolute fun! Waves start every 3-5 minutes. Then, at each kilometer (0.6 miles), participants run through the color-filled Foam Bogs where they are covered from head to toe!

'Bubble-teers' and charity partners will also be there to help make sure you get your share of the frothy goodness. Each of the four Foam Bogs are represented by different colored foam. The foam is 100% safe, but try not to taste it. See Bubble Run!

Color Mixing in Oil with Connie Lynn Reilly

Cumming Country Fair & Festival

The 2017 Cumming Country Fair and Festival, Oct. 5-15, will have lots to offer everyone in the family. Enjoy Midway carnival rides, daily ground acts, petting zoo, Heritage Village with working exhibits, grand concert lineup, Indian Village and much more. The fair is an affordable family outing providing entertainment around every corner. There are free daily attractions, discount days, and free concerts.

Living history exhibits in the Heritage Village demonstrate authentic farm machinery, such as a cotton gin, corn mill, syrup mill, chicken house, grist mill, blacksmith shop, sawmill, moonshine still and a cider press.

The Indian Village represents the rich Cherokee heritage in Forsyth County. The village is home to one of Chief James Vann's taverns, which originally was near the Etowah River.

2017 Historic Homer Haunted Walking Tour

Join our walking tour that begins at the historic courthouse in downtown Homer. Tours will be conducted October 20-21, 2017, at 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30 p.m. each evening. This is a historically-oriented, family event and no blood-and-gore or scare tactics are used. The route is four tenths of a mile over mostly flat terrain and will last approximately one hour. The tour covers most of the Homer Historic District which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Current plans for 2017 tours are to offer at least 18 stops. That's 3 stops more than on our 2016 tours. Some of the most requested characters will be returning, but there are plenty of new characters that will be added. Once again, all tour characters will be based on real people. Each character will have a Banks County connection and a story to tell. Tours will finish at the Old Jail, which will be open to guests after each tour. Light snacks and refreshments will be served after each tour at the historic courthouse.

Elachee Tree Day

Gold Rush Days

Gold Rush Days are held the third weekend in October, when thousands come to see fall colors peaking and celebrate Dahlonega's 1828 discovery of gold. More than 300 art and craft exhibitors gather around the Public Square and Historic District in support of this annual event, and it is estimated that a crowd of over 200,000 visit over the weekend to join in the fun and excitement. It has been voted one of the Top 20 Events in the southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.

Included in the two-day event are a parade, children's activities, a fashion show, gold panning contest, wheelbarrow race, King and Queen Coronation, hog calling, buck dancing contest, gospel singing and other live entertainment, wrist wrestling, and last but not least, delicious food.

Twin Rivers Challenge Cycling Event

The third annual Twin Rivers Challenge, a cycling event to benefit student scholarships at Tallulah Falls School, returns October 28, 2017. The Twin Rivers Challenge is an autumn ride through some of Northeast Georgia's most spectacular scenery and follows routes carefully planned by a local cyclist. Three route options will be offered: 100K, 72K and 37K. All rides begin and end on the Tallulah Falls School upper school campus. Walk-up registration opens at 7:30 a.m., ride starts 9 a.m. Registration is just $35 with ride shirts guaranteed to all participants who register before October 15. 2017 Historic Homer Haunted Walking Tour

Join our walking tour that begins at the historic courthouse in downtown Homer. Tours will be conducted October 20-21, 2017, at 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30 p.m. each evening. This is a historically-oriented, family event and no blood-and-gore or scare tactics are used. The route is four tenths of a mile over mostly flat terrain and will last approximately one hour. The tour covers most of the Homer Historic District which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Current plans for 2017 tours are to offer at least 18 stops. That's 3 stops more than on our 2016 tours. Some of the most requested characters will be returning, but there are plenty of new characters that will be added. Once again, all tour characters will be based on real people. Each character will have a Banks County connection and a story to tell. Tours will finish at the Old Jail, which will be open to guests after each tour. Light snacks and refreshments will be served after each tour at the historic courthouse.

50th Annual Mountain Moonshine Festival

The Mountain Moonshine Festival explores Dawson County's history during Prohibition and the Great Depression when running moonshine through the foothills of the Northeast Georgia mountains was a way of life.

Visit the Car Show, Cruise-In and Swap Meet held at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, formerly known as "Thunder Road USA." See the Moonshine Run on Friday, October 27. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Meet many legendary race car drivers, and see vintage race cars. We will feature more authentic moonshine-hauling cars than you'll ever see gathered in one place anywhere in the US!

See the parade of moonshine and revenue cars to kick off festivities at 9 a.m on Saturday morning. As you stroll around the square in downtown Dawsonville, you will enjoy live entertainment from various artists and a large array of vendors - something for everyone! Purchase festival souvenirs such as t-shirts, caps and refrigerator magnets.
