Lake Hartwell Dam Run - 5/2/15 at 8:30am
The Lake Hartwell Dam Run 5K, 10K and 1-mile Fun Run will take place in Hartwell, Ga. One of Georgia's most scenic races, the 5K will begin in South Carolina (you will be bussed to the start, so get onsite early), and the 10K will start at Big Oaks Recreation Area on US 29 just North of Hartwell, Ga. The 10K course crosses the Savannah River Bridge and comes back across the dam. Come enjoy the "Best Dam Run Anywhere!" Packet pickup and race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. at Big Oaks Recreation Area. Based on previous races, Road Race Place expects more than 200 finishers for the 10K and 500 finishers for the 5K. The race course has been certified as accurate by USA Track and Field. See the days of pioneer Appalachia brought to life by local families and other friends as the Foxfire Museum & Heritage Center hosts Living History Day 2015. Adults and children will be dressed in 1800s period clothing, showcasing almost every facet of mountain life from 200 years ago. Cooking simple food in a stone fireplace, crafting wood furniture with hand tools, blacksmithing in a coal-fired forge, one-room schoolhouse classes covering the Appalachian "three Rs" (Readin', 'Ritin', and Religion), short church services, old-time kids' games, and live traditional music are activities that bring the museum to life as volunteers recreate the unsophisticated and fulfilling lives of the hardy folks that made the majestic Southern Appalachians their home. Eggfest is a gathering of Big Green Egg fans and experienced cooks from all across the country and Canada.
