Full-Moon Suspension Bridge Hike - 3/5 at 6:45-8:45pm & 3/6/15 at 7:30-9:30pm

Civil War at 150 - 3/12/15 at 5:30pm
Sponsored by UNG's Department of History, Anthropology and Philosophy. This lecture, "UNG Historians Reflect on the Civil War," will feature numerous UNG history faculty. Dr. J. David Hacker of the University of Minnesota will conclude the series on April 9, the anniversary of the war's end, with his presentation, "The Human Cost of the American Civil War." In 2012, Hacker published research that increased the death toll of the nation's deadliest war to 750,000. All programs will be in the Cleveland Ballroom in the Martha T. 2015 Wine Highway Weekend - 3/21 - 3/22 & 3/28 - 3/29/15
This year will be our biggest wine weekend event with 18 members who will participate. If you have not participated before, you pay the admission fee at any of the participating wineries where you will receive a souvenir glass that you will take to each winery you visit. Your admission allows you access to the wineries over both weekends so you can take your time and enjoy the experience. Check out our Wine Map to plan your trip. Doctor's Day Celebration - 3/25 at 10am-2pm & 3/27/15 at 10-10:30am
March 30, 2015, is designated as National Doctor's Day in honor of the date Jefferson resident, Dr. Crawford W. Long first used ether as an anesthesia. In honor of this day, red carnations are delivered to local doctors by the museum staff and Jackson & Coker volunteers. The red carnation has become the symbol of Doctor's Day for the qualities of love, charity, sacrifice, bravery and courage. The staff will be delivering red carnations on Wednesday, March 25 and will be placing a memorial wreath on the Long Monument on Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m. Call for costs. Atlanta Audubon Society Bird Walk - 3/27/15 at 10am-12noon
Fort Yargo has some great habitat, including marshland, mixed hardwood forest and an expansive open lake. We will look for a variety of birds like woodpeckers, warblers and wading birds. 26th Annual Trout Tournament - 3/28/15 at 6am-4pm
Fish the famous Chattahoochee River for your chance to catch tagged fish worth up to $500, $1,000 or more in cash prizes! Register at the Festhalle (1074 Edelweiss Strasse, Helen, Ga.) on Friday, March 27, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., or on Saturday, March 28, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. $15 entry fee, open to all ages. Entry fee includes an official tournament t-shirt to the first 350 participants and two bucket raffle tickets. Georgia fishing license and trout stamp required. 27th Annual Magical Easter Eggstravaganza - 3/28/15 at 8am-5pm
The exciting atmosphere is positively blooming. The hospital staff has a day of activities planned, including breakfast with the Easter Bunny, an arts and crafts festival, dancing with Cabbage Patch Kid costume characters, hourly prize drawings, and a free Easter Egg hunt on the grounds of BabyLand General Hospital with 25,000 eggs. This festival will feature some of the brightest stars in storytelling, including Lloyd Arneach, Lyn Ford, Hannah Harvey, Andy Offutt Irwin, Bil Lepp, Minton Sparks, Cayce Terrell, Tom Lawrence, Jr., and Sweet Sunny South. Listeners of all ages will learn about the rich cultural history of Appalachia through storytelling and have the opportunity to become part of its preservation. Performances by our featured tellers will enrich and educate listeners, and workshops taught by our tellers will enable festival-goers to claim their own voices and become storytellers themselves.
