Springtime & Easter Festival - 4/2 - 4/12/15
Join us in celebrating spring with baby animals, planting, fun kids activates and more! Visit the North Georgia Zoo for an Easter Celebration, including Eggstravaganza and Rabbitpalooza. At Rabbitpalooza, you can touch, hold and learn about different types of rabbits and baby bunnies. Eggstravaganza is egg hunting in a whole new fashion. Choose your style of egg hunting, and don't worry about fighting the crowds. Find that one special egg or collect as many as you can, and redeem them for prizes and treats. Sponsored by UNG's Department of History, Anthropology and Philosophy. This lecture, "UNG Historians Reflect on the Civil War," will feature numerous UNG history faculty. Dr. J. David Hacker of the University of Minnesota will conclude the series with his presentation, "The Human Cost of the American Civil War." UNG Chorale and Men's Ensemble Spring Concert - 4/9 - 4/18/15
Tales from the Altamaha is an award-winning Georgia folk-life play performed at the historic Blue Marquee Theater in downtown Lyons. The play is based on the writings of Colonel T. Ross Sharpe, a local attorney born and raised on the Altamaha River. Sharpe wrote a series of essays in the local newpaper, The Lyons Progress, during the 1950s and 60s about settlers of the area surrounding the Altamaha river. Tales from the Altamaha continues in it's 11th year with 'Round the Bend, a new selection of stories interwoven with bluegrass music performed by the "River Rat Review Band". As always, the cast and crew are excited to put on a show for you! Don't miss this cultural celebration steeped in the southern traditions unique to rural South Georgia. Georgia Mountain Storytelling Festival - 4/10 - 4/11/15 at 9am-9pm
This festival will feature some of the brightest stars in storytelling, including Lloyd Arneach, Lyn Ford, Hannah Harvey, Andy Offutt Irwin, Bil Lepp, Minton Sparks, Cayce Terrell, Tom Lawrence, Jr., and Sweet Sunny South. Listeners of all ages will learn about the rich cultural history of Appalachia through storytelling and have the opportunity to become part of its preservation. Performances by our featured tellers will enrich and educate listeners, and workshops taught by our tellers will enable festival-goers to claim their own voices and become storytellers themselves. Join us as we partner with Trout Unlimited, Chattahoochee Riverkeepers and the National Park Service for the fifth annual Sweep the Hooch. This massive cleanup extends all the way from the upper Chattahoochee to Chattahoochee Bend State Park. Register on the Sweep the Hooch website before coming out to volunteer. Eggfest is a gathering of Big Green Egg fans and experienced cooks from all across the country and Canada. The cooks will be showcasing their skills and talents and will be preparing their specialty recipes all day long.
