64th Annual Georgia Mountain Fair - 7/23 - 7/26/14
With first-class musical performances, fun carnival rides, unique attractions and a glimpse into North Georgia's rich history and culture, the fair provides something for every member of the family. Those who visit the fair will enjoy a flower show, country music, an exhibit hall, arts and crafts, and carnival rides. The pioneer village, a replica of how the old mountain towns used to be, has demonstrations that will take you back in time, such as soap and hominy making, moonshine, quilting, blacksmith shop and more. 5th Annual Green Bean Festival - 7/26/14 at 9am-5pm
It's green bean harvest time, and Blairsville is celebrating with green bean eating contests, a recipe contest, canning workshops, and a tractor show and parade. There will be a 5K race and 15-mile Cycling Tour, arts and crafts, and tours of a canning plant. Enjoy children's activities, music, demonstrations, and free entertainment until 5 p.m. at the Union County Farmers Market. North Georgia Quarter Midget Association Race - 7/26/14 at 8am
This sport is definitely the best-kept secret you'll ever come across. Quarter Midgets of America is a family-oriented sport that involves racing in specially prepared cars. The cars, rules and safety procedures are designed specifically for kids. A Quarter Midget car is a scaled-down version of an actual midget racer, approximately 1/4 scale. They race on oval tracks approximately 1/20 of a mile. A child who is 5 to 16 years of age can race. The public is always invited and welcome to watch the kids race. Handicapped Accessible event. Shine Pedalers Metric - 7/26/14 at 6:30am-12noon
This bicycle ride offers a Half-Metric and Metric route that runs through the gorgeous mountains and valleys of Dawson County. It starts at the iconic Dawsonville Municipal Complex, which houses the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Dawsonville Moonshine Distillery. The ride journeys through scenic foothills and valleys of the North Georgia mountains with views of open pastures, old barns and country life, then takes cyclers up highway 136 Scenic Byway, giving them breathtaking views of Burnt Mountain and surrounding areas. Cyclers pass by Amicalola Falls, and some take the extra ride to the top of Amicalola Falls Road to the breathtaking and relaxing site of a 729-foot waterfall, the tallest east of the Mississippi.
