Join us for a celebration of Folk Art - the immensely varied works of homegrown, not-formally-trained artists from around the southeastern United States who produce amazing hand-made creations in mediums including paint, pottery, sculpture, textiles, and more. Folk Art comes in every shape and description, from useful pottery decorated with clay grapes or dogwood blossoms to humorous or frightening face jugs; from small birds carved from found wood to life-sized sculptures of wood or metal that can represent animals or people (real or imagined); from paintings on old roofing tin of chickens or lizards or other animals too. The annual Independence Day Boat Parade on Lake Nottely is sure to delight young and old. Barker's Creek Gristmill Demonstration - 7/2/16
Barker's Creek Mill has been providing the local community with milling services since 1944. It is built on the site of an older mill that served the community since the first white settlers arrived in the area in the 1820s. The mill is powered by a 12-foot overshot wheel set on babbet bearings. The mill itself is a vertical mill with two 16" flint/granite stones. Our volunteer miller is happy to answer any questions. Our stone-ground grits and cornmeal are available for purchase at the mill, or at the Hambidge Center gallery and gift shop. Free admission and parking. Bulletproof Concert - 7/2/16 at 7-11pm
Year to year, this is one of Crane Creek's events that you don't want to miss out on. Bulletproof, never fails to provide a night of music that keeps folks on their feet and dancing through the night. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, appetites, and bare feet and enjoy the evening. A Long And Accomplished Life Exhibit Opens - 10/22 & 10/25 - 10/29/16
This exhibition will feature a surgical re-enactment of the first painless surgery and musical entertainment by Sally and the Jefferson Fiddle Kids. The exhibit, which replaces the Medicine of the Civil War exhibit, will include documents and items from the vault relating to Dr. Long that have not previously been on display.
