Winter Pottery Fest - 2/13 - 2/15/10 at 10 am - 5 pm
Exhibits & video show how men and women settled these mountain valleys, shaping earth and water into vessels and implements necessary for survival. During the next century, families passed these skills to younger generations who have created face jugs, decorated ware and animal figures now valued and collected as distinctive folk art. Several folk potters will demonstrate how these traditional methods are used today. Following GA Hwy 255 north from the Museum, turn north on GA Hwy 197 toward Lake Burton to find more demonstrating artists at Hickory Flat Pottery, Cottage Garden Furniture & Burton Gallery and Emporium. In addition to viewing folk pottery, learn more about contemporary potters trained in studios where they encounter new techniques & perspectives for creating pottery.

Helen-Atlantic Hot Air Balloon Race - 6/3 - 6/5/10
The hot air balloon race will begin (weather permitting) with a mass ascension of 30 bright and colorful hot air balloons, in North Georgia's Alpine Village - Helen. Race competitors and local flyers will take to the sky at 7 am on 6/4/10. If the weather conditions are too windy or storms are forecast, the take off will be postponed until conditions are acceptable. While the competition to the Atlantic continues, other balloonist compete in local events beginning Thursday evening around 6 pm. Local flying events will take place also on Friday and Saturday. The balloons will fly around 7:30 am & 6pm each day (weather permitting). Balloons will only fly for around 1-2 hours. There will be many opportunities available to the public; assisting with the inflations, being a part of a chase crew, taking a tethered ride in a balloon or a champagne flight over the mountains. Hemlockfest - 11/6 - 11/7/10 at 10 am
Hemockfest is an annual bluegrass, blues, and rock music festival held to benefit efforts to save the Hemlock trees of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are threatened by an invasive parasite, the wooly adelgid. Visitors can come for a day or camp out for the weekend at the beautiful Starbridge Retreat, a 40-acre site near historic Dahlonega (about an hour north of Atlanta), featuring primitive campsites, a lake, and a scenic music venue. Hemlockfest is a three-day event featuring music from such genres as singer songwriter, blue/newgrass, blues, Celtic rock, and jam bands. Hemlockfest also features arts and crafts vendors, demonstrations and exhibits on nature and rustic living, tasty food and beverages, and unique performances by fire dancers, puppet artists, and other entertainers. 100% of the proceeds of Hemlockfest go toward efforts to preserve the Hemlock trees and combat the wooly adelgid parasite. Featuring an evening when storytellers across the world entertain audiences of all ages with exciting tales. Here in Northeast Georgia, the Sautee Nacoochee Center will host Tellabration! Showcasing Jo Carson (co-writer of Headwaters) and an ensemble of local talent.
