Tightrope Lessons-"Get Outdoors" - 9/5 & 9/6/15 at 1-2:30pm
A .25-mile hike will take us to the site of Karl Wallenda's™ 1970 walk across the gorge on a tightrope. This is a strenuous trek, which include hiking down 531 stairs, a river crossing, jumping from rock to rock, and climbing boulders along the side of the river to Bridal Veil Falls where you can swim. The total miles is 3.5. Children must be 10 or older. No pets; wear appropriate footwear; bring food and water. Cost is $10 per person and $5 parking fee. Space is limited. Behind the Scenes Tour - 12/20/15 at 4-6pm
Get up close and personal with animals not seen on regular zoo visits. See babies from the nursery, including bottle-fed kangaroos, deer and more! Experience and take part in the training and enrichment of animals from owls to zebras. Allow 3 hours for the tour, including time at your leisure in the farm petting area. Youth Fishing Days at Buck Shoals - 5/28, 6/25, 7/23 & 8/27/16 at 8am-12noon
Children and their special "big person" can fish in a lake stocked with catfish, bass and bream. Fish caught can be kept. Bring your own bait and rods. This event is not at Smithgall Woods, but at Buck Shoals, a nearby unopened state park. Call for directions. $5 parking fee.
