Altamaha River Rat Run - 6/2/13
Come enjoy this fall paddle along the wonderful Altamaha River the first Saturday in June. This paddle is for all ages. You must register for the event!Family paddle. Meet at Deen's Landing in Appling County at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at Davis Landing in Appling County for a total of 10 miles. Entry: Adults: Pre-registration $15.00, Day of event: $20, Children 12 years and under FREE. Non-profit & Group rates of 10+ is $10 per person(*Must be noted on application). This camp focuses on learning what life was like for children on a south Georgia farm in the late 1800s. Educational show that will have three special performances, which will be on on Friday, August, 23rd, at 4pm and on Saturday, August 24th at 11am and 3pm. Show will include live rattlesnakes and educational demonstrations about Wildlife Conservation, Survival Skills, Trees & Forestry and Frogs and Toads. Performance is included in the daily admission fee. Join Van McCall and the God in the Hunt team for an exciting and informative adventure entitled 'The Outdoor Life Experience'. Annual Lumber City Farm Day Festival - 9/6 - 9/8/13 - See times below
Spend the evening, day or entire weekend with Lumber City as we celebrate the "good ole days" when the locals gathered on Main Street every Saturday, to play guitars, sing and enjoy good food. Friday, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., enjoy arts, crafts, and food booths; a kids amusement park with slides and rides. The Street Dance begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, festivities are planned from 9 a.m. to midnight. A 1-mile and 5K race begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning breakfast is served 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. A dog show begins at 9 a.m. and a parade at 10 a.m. Cake walks; arts, crafts and food booths; and a kids amusement park with slides and rides will be available throughout the day. Youth talent show will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Additional entertainment will include singing and dancing all day. The day ends with another Street Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. Christmas Extravaganza - 12/5 - 12/6/13 at 5:30-6:30pm On Thursday, join us from 5:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. for our Jingle Bell Walk, as we take a walk through Helena on 8th Avenue and McRae on Oak Street. Line up for the walk on Forsyth Street in Helena beginning at 5 p.m., and the walk will begin promptly at 5:30 pm. Bring your jingle bells and help us officially begin the Christmas season in Telfair County! After the walk, stay around for Christmas Night Out from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Stroll along the streets of Helena and McRae, shop and sample delicious food from local merchants. Santa will make an appearance so the kids can get their wish lists in early. 50th Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade - 12/7/13
Downtown Douglas will light up as the Parade makes its way through the streets on Dec. 7. Festivities will begin at 3:30 p.m. in downtown Douglas at Atkinson Plaza with Music on Main Street until 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., crowds will cheer runners along the parade route as the South Georgia Track Club Christmas Parade 5K Run takes place. The parade will begin at Peterson Avenue at 6:30 p.m. and make its way from the Courthouse to the Alternative Education Center. The parade is a light extravaganza that visitors will not want to miss!
