Fort Mountain Stables at Fort Mountain State Park Owners
Chris, Meghan and Elizabeth CallowayChris has been around horses since he was a little boy of 4 years old. He grew up in Blue Ridge, GA just over the mountains.  Chris comes from a large family of Callihans.  Family gatherings are a whirl wind of activities but so much fun.

I grew up loving horses thanks to my Aunt Sandra.  I got out of the horse business for many years while growing up, but after college decided I’d get back into riding. I had a few horses of my own but none to take trail riding…thus the story about how we met.

Chris and I met right here at Fort Mountain Stables in September 2004.  Chris made the adventure exciting and fun. You will find if you want to talk, Chris will entertain you with many stories and adventures. A few weeks later Chris and I started dating…were married…and have a beautiful baby girl, Callie Elizabeth born April 16, 2007.

Chris and I purchased Fort Mountain Stables this year, thus bringing us full circle in our lives. We look forward to many years of sharing our love of horses, people and the outdoors with you, your families and friends.  Come join us and start your own memories on horseback.

Fort Mountain derives its name from an ancient 855-foot-long rock wall which stands on the highest point of the mountain. The mysterious wall is thought to have been built by Indians as fortification against other more hostile Indians or for ancient ceremonies.

Situated in the Chattahoochee National Forest close to the Cohutta Wilderness area, this park offers a variety of outdoor activities.

Fort Mountain has 37 miles of beautiful horseback riding trails.  Riders, hikers and mountain bikers will enjoy some of the most beautiful trails in north Georgia.

Most trails wind through hardwood forest and blueberry thickets, occasionally crossing streams and providing spectacular vistas.
