Housed at the Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division in Brunswick, Georgia, and staffed by biologists, the is set to visit communities in the 11 county service area which is served by the Coastal Resources Division.

The only one of its kind in the state, the Coastal Ark is a 30 foot mobile classroom sailing the roadways of Georgia in a flurry of environmental activity. By joining forces with Georgians and increasing public knowledge of issues facing our natural resources, the CoastalArk is working to preserve the natural beauty of our unique area for generations to come.
The Ark and Local Government
A most innovative and technologically advanced way of delivering up-to-date and current ecological information to the citizens of coastal Georgia is cruising down a highway near you. Georgia’s Coastal Ark, a 30 foot mobile classroom and the only one of it’s kind in the state, uses the power of state-of-the-art technology to educate and expose the citizens of Georgia to environmental issues which impact our coastal resources.

Staffed by biologists from the Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division, the Coastal Ark is ready to meet the needs of local governments throughout the 11 county Coastal Resources service area. Created to provide watershed-based wetland technical assistance, outreach activities and training opportunities to local government officials, the Ark utilizes a gamut of strategies and resources to achieve its mission to preserve and protect GA’s wetlands.

Looking to government and community groups as the first line of defense for protecting wetlands and the environment, the Coastal Ark uses educational activities and programs to promote and encourage informed and responsible decision making for the natural resources of coastal GA.

The primary goal of the Ark is to strike a balance between economic development and conservation of the state’s coastal ecosystem. To achieve this goal the Coastal Ark provides a format for a wide variety of local environmental issues and activities such as wetlands-related zoning, permitting requirement seminars for contractors, geographic information system (GIS) technology and more.
Equipped with video equipment and monitors, computers, scientific and technical components, a GIS system and a warehouse of educational information, the Ark is ready to bring environmental information to the doorstep of local government.
